Follow, N*Caddy's( thanks N*Caddy for posting) post on, Entering in diagnose mode ..but when you get to ipc data your wanting to go up (yes) i think two times. i think it will be right after battery volts is displayed. then your speed will be displayed there..If any of this is wrong hit me back and I will go to the etc and make sure...I've got an 07 srx with warranty problems on the rear end and have just been busy with that..sorry but I will make it right..lol |

Both mph's displayed??? Should I be going down the road when I do this? By the way, the last thing you said to do was right on, the value is set at "0". I don't know if this means anything, but it seems like all the guages read higher (don't know about the tach) than they should. |

I'm not good at trying to explain things using a keyboard to do it..lol... but if you dont figure it out, let me know and I will try to explain it a little better. let me know either way |

If that’s the case check to have the car set to Imperial (not metric). If is set to imperial (i.e. Miles on the IPC and degrees Fahrenheit on your climate control) and your speedometer is lopsided the chances are very high that your IPC is defective.
You can eliminate everything and be sure that the IPC is the culprit by bringing your speed on the display. If you don’t have the instant speed in the options scrolled with the INFO button then add-it to the menu.
Here is how:
Follow my instructions up to IPC OVERRIDES.
Then instead of going to option B, go to option E (use the same buttons FAN SPEED UP/DOWN, AC OFF, FRONT DEFROST (the symbol), PASS WARMER/COOLER)
Once in option E and VERY, VERY important make sure you write down the value shown where the trip odometer usually shows (again after 1-2 seconds). Remember that value, take a picture, write it down (is important).
Now to add the speed display in the menu ADD 4 (four) to the initial number.
So let’s say your value is 43 (factory default) to add the instant speed display to the menu add 4 (i.e. 43+4=47). Use the same buttons PASS WARMER (+1) and PASS COOLER (-1). Once you have the new value use the same FRONT DEFROST (symbol) and A/C OFF to store the value (same as mentioned before press and hold until the value flashes).
Then exit from this menu as I mentioned before either turn the ignition OFF or press repeatedly A/C OFF until you get to the segment test and when all lights are on press one more time A/C OFF and you are out of the diagnose mode.
Now using your INFO button scroll to the options until you get to instant MPH.
Drive the car and compare the digital display with the analog display.
If no match your needle actuator is bad, if match then you might have a PCM or speed sensor issue (inside the transmission). |

I'm one of these that know and remember how to do something just cant explain it the way it needs to be..kinda like I can never remember some ones phone number until I look at the phone....lol..Thanks Again |

I have the instant speed readout on the info display, just never thought about that. Brain fart I recon. If they're different, the IPC's probably scrap. If they're the same, sensor in the tranny is bad. Should've been able to figure that out my ownself. I'll check that out tomorrow. I'll let you know. |

And to tell you a little secret...I had a glance to the FSM, can't remember exactly either if I am not in front of the IPC. |

Age: 55 | | | Re: speedometer question N*CADDY, anybody that could remember that sequence and which buttons to push, has a lot more upstairs then I have. Anyway, I didn't have mph on the readout, now I do. Went down the road, 45mph on the readout, 54mph on the speedometer. Junk the car??? Kidding, look for a new dash cluster? I guess that's my only option.
Thanks guys, I'd have never figured that out without you. |

You can buy a used IPC and try replacing just the actuator for the speedometer. Is not that complicated to take the IPC apart.
Once you get the IPC out (if you don’t know how ask me how) take the 6 (or so) screws around the edge of the glass trim. Observe that the glass is held in place on the half front of the IPC with some 4 screws (still along the front edge). You don’t need to remove these. Then turn the IPC with the glass down (hold it together since it has no screw) and locate the banner cable on one of the side. Disconnect the cable by pulling away the two hooks at each side (pulling away the hooks will lift the connector), and then lift the back casing (with half of the electronics attached) off the glass face witch will stay attached with the gauges on the glass (the other half of the electronics). The IPC has two PCB’s one that comes out with the backside of the casing and the front PCB (attached to the glass side) housing the gauges actuators, the display strip and the display controller. That banner cable I mentioned makes the connections between the two PCBs.
Now from what I studied (not too much) it appears to me that the back PCB is the one with the memory chip (i.e. where your odometer is stored) while the front PCB only houses the actuators. So theoretically you can just replace the front PCB of your IPC with another one (say from a wreck yard). That would cost you no more than $50 and you don’t have to worry about getting the IPC reprogrammed with the mileage (witch cost money is not a free service). Now this is just an assumption (some how educated), if it doesn’t work you will have to do the programming anyway (but at least you tried). |

Will that same procedure to add MPH display to the Information output area also work on a 94 Eldorado Touring Coupe?
If not, do you know how to add it to one? Thanks!
Edit:
Options are not even the same, what is IP07 for? (It's value is 32 currently)
IP08 is 244 also...

But it doesn’t hurt to try if you have the same IPC menu... |

But just swap the electronics as I mentioned, if the car starts and the odometer is OK then I was right, if not then swap it back and go to the shop to have-it reprogrammed. | | Cadillac Discussion Tools | | |
