If you're putting in a pair (or 4) halogens every year or so, you have serious electrical or vibration problems. No car on earth goes through a pair of halogens, even though they may also be DRL's, in a year. If you believe that Granny Smith, cruising her Deville from NY to FL each spring and fall, is replacing her 9005's every year, you're mistaken.

I can't figure how a pair of D1S HID capsules is $100. Are you sure these aren't blue-tinted 9006 (low beam) halogens

The price of HID capsules on ebay is a night and day difference to what dealerships charge for them, though they may be a generic brand at times. 50 a piece is not un-realistic actually. Especially when you consider that a generic chinese HID kit complete with ballasts, ignitors and capsules goes for $60.00 now.
