To do a proper job - assuming that the PCV line has come off the tit in the intake manifold recess - you need to remove the intake manifold (no cover, it's all one piece). The whole thing takes 2 hours, it's not rocket science, and you might as well replace the connector plenum while you're at it: they crack at about 4 - 6 years old. (That might be your 0171/0174 codes, right there.) Read the threads on manifold and plenum removal. Use the search tab up in the blue bar.
FYI,
your car does not have a PCV valve. It has a metered orifice which is integral with the tit on the rear cam cover. There is no maintenance or changing required, so you should have read up on the subject before pulling on stuff.......
Go on eBay and find a real Helm/GM Factory Service Manual. It will save you far more than this ^^^ will cost.
