    Overheating - water pump?

About a pint of coolant on garage floor after short drive.

After cooling overnight, gauge past middle after idle and around block.

    Hoses, belt, tensioner, OK.

Drained and captured coolant, removed and verified thermostat. Re-filled with at least one quart of captured coolant remaining after it hit the top.

Idle/high idle until 12 o'clock on gauge, around block with heater full on. Cold air only from heater and beginning to overheat. Coolant level unchanged, upper return rad hose relatively cool.

Water pump (et.al. incl. head gaskets) was replaced 360 days ago by reputable shop but what else can be wrong except complete obstruction?
