On my 2002 STS, is it possible to remove or hollow out the ...
Well anything is possible.....however I wouldn't recommend it as it will cause havoc with the readings coming from the downstream 02 sensor which will in turn cause the computer to try and adjust fuel mixtures and likely throw check engine light because it can't compensate for it. Why are you wanting to do this???? If its cause your CAT is plugged they're 158 bucks on RockAuto....GM Parts Direct will only sell an entire CAT Back system but I'm sure you can get just the CAT at the dealership. If you're looking for more power good luck, read up on the forums as the Caddy Engineers did a good job of getting it all to begin with, there isn't a ton of tuning available on these cars.....in terms of exhaust Corsa makes about the only bolt on aftermarket kit that will work with these cars, sounds awesome but its going to run you around 800 to 1k.

Re: Can I remove/hollow catalytic converter?
WHY ??? The OEM convertor is a high flow honeycomb substrate unit which offers essentially no backpressure to above the design engine redline.
.......and, yes, lots of stuff is sensed and calculated by before-and-after cat O2 sensors. Screw with the cat and your engine control system goes down the tubes.
Resist the urge to rely on rumor and old wives' tales: keep it clean, don't spend $$$ on snake oil, and enjoy the ride.
What is the build date of your STS ?? Driver's door sticker. Look at the sticker under the spare tire cover and enter all the 3-character codes into www.cadillacinfo.com/rpo/index.php . Now you know what's in your car. If you have an F55 STS (late 2002+) you're fortunate.
If you're having problems with poor mileage......post that....not a jump to wanting to pull out the CAT. There are LOTS of threads on poor mileage.....use the search feature and read up on several, then go pull the beauty cover off the engine and check your regulator.
