Just bought a 2001 Seville SLS

Remove this ad
Title is pretty self-explanatory; I wasn't planning to buy a new car, but this Seville was incredibly clean with just 72,000 miles. Details on how I happened to find this car are already in the Seville/Eldorado forum (Considering a 2002 SLS -- Opinions wanted), so I won't go through it all again. Here are a couple of pictures from the dealer ad:

Took it for a half-hour, nearly 30 mile test drive late this afternoon. Got in a couple of WOTs. As much as I loved my 4.9, I'm already loving the Northstar. So smooth, with a nice sound when you get on it. The whole car is incredibly quiet. And all the toys work, and the temperature gauge never budged from top dead center and the blend doors worked perfectly to the dash and floor vents. I've already set up some of the personalized controls for the memory seat, locks, etc.

As the pictures show, this sucker is clean. You'd never know it was eight years old. It looks practically brand new or two years old at the most. I don't care what all the critics say about GM interiors, this is awfully damn nice. Not as nice as a new CTS, but certainly as nice as it's contemporary competition.

Anyway, here are a few more pictures from after I got it home and in the garage:

Now, she needs a name. Right now, the leading candidates in my head are Serena or Wendy, but I'm open to suggestions.

Re: Just bought a 2001 Seville SLS

Re: Just bought a 2001 Seville SLS

I hope you have as good luck with your Seville as we have had with ours! Great color and the fact that it is a SLS has its' advantages over the long haul. It is amazing how well these cars stand up and that there are so many good ones still available.

As for a name, how about Samantha?

Re: Just bought a 2001 Seville SLS

Keep up on your coolant changes and that car should provide you many more years of enjoyable service. Nice find!

First mod: Wood shifter! They are EASY to take off and replace. The steering wheels are on ebay too.

Re: Just bought a 2001 Seville SLS

It looks a lot like our '99 STS. We just got back from a 1500 mile trip to San Antonio and back. The car performed flawlessly even though we got caught in some downpours. It has 92K on it. I love these cars

Re: Just bought a 2001 Seville SLS

Welcome to the SLS club, congrats!

First order of business I'd recommend is swapping out the stock yellowish lowbeams with Silverstars, it makes a big difference.

Wood shifter too. I got a mahogany one on ebay for about $40.

Nice SLS. I love our Cashmere 01 (63K miles) and agree with all your sentiments. Great, smooth riding car. Congrats.

Re: Just bought a 2001 Seville SLS

Thanks, everybody. She is sweet and a looker to boot. Did a couple of not-quite WOTs passing a couple of big rigs on my drive to work.

Still thinking of a name. Somebody in the Lounge suggested Samantha; I will have to explain the I'm not naming my new car after my old wife.

Took a few more pix this morning after I got to work.

During the test drive, I made sure to check out the cassette player for using my iPod. The power jack on the passenger side of the console is perfect for keeping i charged. Check out the blingy wreath and crest on my keychain; got that a couple of months ago at an auto parts store:

I love the guages. Eat your heart out Lexus; Caddy did it better:

The mighty Northstar:

Taken in front of my office, Adams Hall at Oregon State University:

What's a good Spanish name? I'm afraid I can't name the car Samantha. I used to love that name, but that's my ex-wife's name. I'm not naming my new car after my old wife.

Just thought of another one, and I think it's now my top choice: Sabrina.

I'm pretty sure Betty approves. She didn't swing her doors out (a la Christine) to ding the Seville when I pulled into the garage last night.

Oddly enough, it was 10 years ago today that I bought Betty. Usually, I drive Betty to work on the anniversary of my buying her and her birthday (I have the build sheet, so I know she was built Nov. 4, 1963). Maybe I'll take her for a quick spin tonight.
