Cool Seville Theft Deterrent System

Remove this ad
I am having intermittent problems with my alarm.

Often, when I set it, the horn beeps and lights flash -as they should - to indicate the alarm is set, but then, a few seconds later, the alarm goes off, even though everything is locked.

Also, the dash 'security' light stays on.

Sometimes it sets the alarm OK but then 10 mins later it goes off.

No fault codes or messages are displayed apart from the yellow 'security' dash light.

Re: Seville Theft Deterrent System

The 10 minute alarm sounds like something in the RAP (Retained Accessory Power) is tripping a voltage spike which makes the security system respond to a perceived theft condition. What condition is your battery in ?? ....age or static (engine off) voltage.......

Re: Seville Theft Deterrent System

I don't know what year Seville you have but try this: lock and unlock with the key both front doors, and the trunk (and maybe the glovebox?) several times. You have either a bad sensor or corroded connections on a VATS sampled sensor. The locking and unlocking might wipe corrosion off a flaky switch.

Corrosion seems more likely than a "dead" sensor. Do all the door open/ajar switches work correctly (IE turn on interior lights)? Does the trunk light work correctly? The underhood light (parking lights on)?

I don't know if the ATS will set if a door is left open. I'll try my Eldo later and get back if no one comes up with a solution. Most alarms sense a change in levels rather than a truth table to set a safe condition but ours may use both. I've never checked mine but I will regardless. Would be good to know.

Ted

Re: Seville Theft Deterrent System

Normal operation of the factory alarm is to be armed as you exit the car and push the power door lock switch. No horn chirp or lights flashing should occur when you do this. The arming module is seeing something not fully closed. So check the pin switches at the door hinge area as well as under hood for being fully depressed when the doors or hood is shut. PLEASE PUT YEAR AND TYPE of car in your signature profile. You are missing out on responses if the reader has no idea what you are working on! My 84 Eldo would not arm and it was a poor ground at the trunk lid switch.
