I must admit (if there is still a need for), that was a really poor choice of automobile. Although I am fairly neutral with the bug, at least is not a Civic, Jetta or some Mazda. I can help feeling a little bitterness thinking on yet another person complaining around how bad is a Cadillac using the “believe me I used to have one” argument usually to an audience that never even ride in one. The level of engineering involved in a Cadillac is far superior to most of the cars, is the original luxury car, the rest are just aspirants.
Some how Cadillac and GM in general suffer of bad perceptions (this is the perfect example), and I have no idea how it ended up like that. Today the most reliable car you can buy new is a Chevy Malibu, is also the second cheapest in its class, the second most powerful, one of the best in fuel economy and the second best equipped (the slightly better equipped car is also the most expensive and pretty unreliable). Yet people are driving around in new Hondas, Toyotas and Mazdas (the last two being below average in reliability). That’s pretty bad for a stripped down car (there are not too many things that can go wrong).
I adore my car, is the car I always want to have, I feel very bad when some body had a reaction like “you got a Cadillac? Why?” I plan to keep this car forever; no expense is too much, it worth wild. |

There was a study done on that not long ago and the beetle is definitely hands down a girl car. Mostly because it's cute and they don't know any better.

Wow, this has to be the funniest thread I've read anywhere in a LONG time. True, I do feel a little sorry for the OP, but come ON ! He did it to himself. We'll see what happens in a few years on how the Beetle is holding up. And, yes I also tend to agree with 98% of the other posters here. You should've just fixed the STS, and kept her. But, what's done is done I suppose. |

That 1999 STS will end up in the hands of some wholesaler, who will
likely clean it up, put a worthless p/t warranty on her, and sell it to
some sucker for $3k ... might even sell it "as is", stating it needs a
rad or thermostat.
The new owner, upon discovering the price of the true repair,
will perpetuate the myth that Cadillacs are "pieces of crap".
The viscious cycle will continue. |

I currently own a 95 deville and used to own a 2002 New beetle TDI, given a choice on which to drive on a long trip, the beetle would win hands down over the caddy, the seat was more comfortable in the VW and the 45 MPG I got on the highway wasn't bad either, I currently have a 2005 Passat wagon TDI that is my daily driver, much more comfortable car to drive on long trips than the caddy
and the VW stock stereo speakers are much better than the devilles
now granted my deville is 14 years old and has 95K miles on it and I have not driven any with a northstar for any distance, but the seats in every VW I have ever owned have always been superior to the seats in any of the american cars I have owned (3 crown vics. 3 caprice classics, 3 dodge pickups, 1 ford pickup, 5 cadillacs, 2 of which I still own) a dodge dynasty, plymouth sundace, dodge diplomat and several others)
the only real "compliant" I have abot the Passat is that the steering is slightly to heavy on the highway, that "german" feel, somthing the new beetle did not have, but my caddy is about the same in steering on the highway, I miss the good old 70's overboosted, numb, steer with your pinky steering. |

I think someone has a poor opinion of comfort because I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that both my 78 Coupe and my 93 Brougham are absolutely by far more comfortable to drive and ride in than any other vehicle I've seen.
There's just no comparison to the way a full size Cadillac rides. Now as for the FWD Cadillacs, they're not AS smooth but they're far far better than any Passat or other that I've been in.
Every time I ride with someone else, it really makes me appreciate the fact that I dive Cadillacs.
I'd much rather travel in my DTS than my daughters Passat. |

OMG sorry, but yeah, there's NO comparison. Unless that guy's '95 SDV was beat ALL down w/no suspension and the seat in the full upright tilt position and a broken motor -- there's NO way that generation Passat is going to beat it for Interstate ride and interior comfort. Properly functioning/non-worn out Deville seats from the '94+ generation are like butter.
Now, if you're driving through the pig trail twisties, then the Passat would be a better choice. The seats would have more lateral support, more responsive steering and braking, and it wouldn't wallow like an ocean liner.
But he mentioned "long trip" and "highway" in his post, which leads me to believe that he's talking about the former, and as such, high. I've never ridden in the current gen Passats which look much bigger, so I can't speak to those...

A little to much Old No. 7? I accuse you of PUI
(Posting under the influence)
No one on the planet is going to buy that your Beetle is more comfortable that the Luxo Barge for a road trip. Even if your SDV is a stripped down former POS rent a car with a spring popped through the leather poking you in the asz, it's more comfortable than a Beetle.
When you sober up you can admit it, we already know.

You did not read my post, I never said that the VW beetle rode better, I said the seat was more comfortable and it is, I am 6'6" and 400 pounds, beetle seat, firm and supportive, caddy seat, like sitting on a pillow with minimal support under it, great for a short ride, back hurts on a long ride, and the seat back adjustment works fine on it, but it does not have a lumbar support
Passat seat is better than the caddy seat also, and my caddy suffers from having macphersion struts in front, so it jars over the wonderful speed bumps Ohio likes to install on the interstates where most states have expansion joints, my 69 coupe deville road much better than my current deville
and no, 2005 passats do not have strut front ends, they have twin control arms like cars should have
I like my caddy's, and will always have one (or 2) | | Cadillac Discussion Tools | | |
