Dude, you got by who ever talked you out of fixing the car... Even though the car is still worth only about $5,000 you are still money ahead to spend $2500-$3000 and sell it for $5000 then to trade it for $1500. Then
Dude, you got by the dealer on that trade. Then
Dude, you got by whoever talked you into buying a USED new Beetle. based on quality... Dude it was made in Mexico... These are known to fall apart on the lot when they were new... Then
Dude, you got by thinking this is a car for strait guys... The guys at the Miata club will love you in that car... Then
Dude, you got by half of the posters here when none of you logic makes any sense and none of your math adds up.

If I had your luck with cars I would buy a Bus pass.

LOL..WOW...hexap0wned.

-Chris

P.S. I think this was an afront to Miato owners/drivers. At least you can race those. No redeeming value in the bug.

Re: The STS is gone and I'm out almost $6K....

Come on guys dont bash the guy. If he would have traded the car for anything but a BEETLE I wouldnt have a problem with it. The fact that he went from a ass kickin lux sedan to a toy poodle beetle is comical. I understand being upset about the HG's and actually $1500 trade-in for a 99 with bad headgaskets and +100K miles isnt that bad of a trade. Alot of people dont have the skill to do a headgasket job, or can afford the repair bill. Next time just put a little more thought into the new automobile!

This thread is very entertaining and Ur7x, you get the award for best post of the month. You go from a Cadillac to a Bug? Could be a very funny movie.

He probably could have gotten the Bug for $1000 less without the trade, so his net was probably only $500. Dealers don't stay around long paying $1500 for something they'll get less than $1000 for at auction - which is a sure bet that's where his Caddy went.

Re: The STS is gone and I'm out almost $6K....

So you sent the Hoopty down the road.

You should've bought a 1999 BMW 750il. They cost $95,000 new and trade in is $8,200, unless of course you slide the poop shooter onto the lot steaming, then it's ****ing ZeRO!

Look, the rules state clearly , men don't drive Beetles!

Use these good pictures to start your rehab.

This one is bad, stay away from this.

Somebody help me, I've bought a Bug!

Lets see some pics of that Buggy.

Let the healing begin.

The Cadillac could probably run the 1/4, and then slip into reverse and go back to the starting line before the beetle was even finished.

Re: The STS is gone and I'm out almost $6K....

Hi havn't read read ever reply on this thread but I get the gist. I bought a '98 STS with 78xxx in Nov '06 for 9000 (good price at the time , it was perfect!) Chad has seen it and can confirm that. Anyway, last July the car had 98xxx. The wife was driving on the freeway and it over heated. She stopped on the side and it cooled down right away. She got home, told me it over heated and instantly I knew (head gasket) I went ahead and replaced the thermostat to no avail. I didn't bother testing for exhaust gasses because I could smell them in the surge tank. Parked it for a couple of months to save some cash. Took it to Grossman Chev/Cadillac and as I suspected it was the head gasket. They came back to me with a laundry list (seals, motor mounts, hoses, etc) and a bill of $5100... given the fact that I paid cash for the car and that I could through away my initial 9000 and buy a buick regal with 125xxx for 5100, it was a no brainer! fix the Caddy! fixed it, love it even more, and I look forward to the next 200xxx

You know you messed up when the CTS guys find themselves in the Seville/Eldorado forum criticizing your poor choice. =P

Re: The STS is gone and I'm out almost $6K....

The 1999 model year was produced and sold in 1998.

2009 - 1998 = 11 Wake up. Either way that small discrepancy doesn't matter in this topic. I'll also have you know I'm very excelled in math both base 2 and base 10 systems.

114k on a Cadillac of any flavor is just barely broken in. We'll see how the beetle is fairing at that mileage and what it's worth at the time.

Yes, some pre 2000 N* engine had some issues. We know that and you should have too before buying it. But they're still one hell of an engine and almost always worth fixing.

Do what you want, it's your money but I think we can all agree you made a very silly choice.

I just thought I'd add myself to that list. If I was rich and had money to burn like a lot of you guys it wouldn't be that big of a deal to me either....

Re: The STS is gone and I'm out almost $6K....

GM isn't the only one with head gasket problems, check out my sebring convertible forum, we have posts there with failed head gaskets.

I wish you hadn't traded out your Caddy, because now you'll forever bash Cadillac, and GM. I was in a new Subaru today that fish-tails in the wind, and it's barely 3 years old. The owner says he needs new shocks, in three years?? I've a friend with a Toyota Corolla with not even 100,000 miles and had major work done it because it was sucking up oil AND leaking it. He discovered that driving home from DC to Michigan.

No car is ever perfect unless you own it from Day 1 and know it from the inside out, err, except for the Toyota, that was new when they bought it, so there goes that idea. oh well.

Good luck to you.
