Ok so you traded in a car that you bought for $7350 and it needed a $1500repair (assuming you did it yourself and you studded the block, replaced all hoses belts and sealed the bottom end) so at that point you own a car for $8850 that will run for another 200,000 miles EASY for a beetle that you paid $6000 + your STS that will last what another 90,000 miles and who knows what you will have to drop into it along the way, those turbos are troublesome from what I have heard.
That doesn’t make much scene to me but to each their own I guess . |

I think the O.P. is upset mainly because a) he is non-mechanical type, and b) he himself realizes he now drives the car.
I believe he will realize his mistake, come back on and apologize to everyone here for venting about a mistake he caused.
In all seriousness, leb, how in the HELL did they con you into buying a BEETLE? Man, that really sucks. I feel for you, bro. |

What's really funny is that the police in Tillsonburg (near where I live) have a beetle in their fleet. If they were to turn their lights on behind me, in THAT, I'm not sure I'd really feel like pulling over.... |

reality used more for PR work, like visiting schools.
As well, they lend it out to the Toronto police to lead the Gay Pride
Rainbow parade every year. |

I wish our law enforcement officers had Beetles - they just stocked up on Hemi Chargers, including one unmarked. If I parked a Beetle in my spot at work they'd lock me out of my office and make me use the Ladies Room. |

I don't think the state legislature down here would let Texas Troopers use Beetles. I have seen lots of black marked/unmarked pickups and SUVs. But Houston PD? I dunno.

You got to feel for him though. It’s got to be no fun when the HG gives up. I know I would not be very happy if that happens. My brother had a Jetta and it was very costly on repairs. He ended up selling it due to that issue. Also said the seats sucked and it was not that comfortable.
But a beetle not that's a little funny |

I feel bad for the OP too. I was in the same boat not having found this site before I bought my STS on impulse and paid more for it. Over time I came to accept the fact that I would likely face HGs sooner or later and sure enough I did. The difference is that I didn't just dump mine and tell everyone here they're a bunch of junk-driving dolts, nor did I whine about crappy GM engineering and/or quality control. I've owned enough cars to understand that they're all junk one way or the other. I'd still rather WOT my N* than cruise in a Corolla. |

With any type of car, you will have problems. If you want to drive anything, you have to accept this. Some are better than others. But if you play your cards right and you know your stuff, it can work out to your advantage. |

Dude, you got by the guy who sold you the caddy for 8 large only 14 months ago... $7,200 for a 99 with over 100K dude what are you smoking fair price was closer to $5,000. Then
Dude, you got by who ever talked you out of fixing the car... Even though the car is still worth only about $5,000 you are still money ahead to spend $2500-$3000 and sell it for $5000 then to trade it for $1500. Then
Dude, you got by the dealer on that trade. Then
Dude, you got by whoever talked you into buying a USED new Beetle. based on quality... Dude it was made in Mexico... These are known to fall apart on the lot when they were new... Then
Dude, you got by thinking this is a car for strait guys... The guys at the Miata club will love you in that car... Then
Dude, you got by half of the posters here when none of you logic makes any sense and none of your math adds up.
If I had your luck with cars I would buy a Bus pass. |

If he misses his Caddy he'll buy another Caddy for cheap, that needs HGs, get them done, and he'll be happy. Believe me, after driving a bug for a while, this could happen. | | Cadillac Discussion Tools | | |
