heat-slow

99 STS and has a couple heat realted issues (no heat on drivers floor) and appears (just noticed this) that the drivers side temp control does not work (always full heat on that side reguardless of setting, pass side blows less and cooler with temp changes).

heat has been good enough that I am hopeing to leave till summer and look at blend doors and such since heat is there, its just not on drivers floor.

But 2X (strange its only happend 2x all other 60-70 starts in last few months have been normal for heat, even in 10 below)in last month a strange thing has happned. Car is fully warmed up (12 o clock on temp guage) yet no heat. The heat does come, I think i hear a door move then all the sudden there is heat.
Im in ND so its cold, the 2X this has happned has been the coldest days we have had, 18 below and today it was 27 below. Normally with the autostart i have heat in 7-10 minutes and am is blowing full heat by 15.. both time it was wierd it was like 20 minutes of cold, then (and i might be mistaken) i thouhgt i heard a blend door like sound and heat was full (didnt slowely build, it was totally hot)... my worst fear was slushy or frozen antifreeze (it was checked this fall and was good to 30-40 below) and I'm thinking since its not slowely heating up, its not a freeze problem.

My guess is yet another door problem, colder, slower to work. Sound like I may be on right track? Got a long weekend so may pull glovebox, was really hopeing to outlast wainter but No heat for 20 minutes (even if its very rare) is getting to edge of "blow it off for now". Maybe i have something as simple as vacume line problems. been trying to get a good shop manual of e-bay but keep getting outbid in last 30 seconds (why does somebody alwasy want something for $.50 more then me, $10-50 more i understand, but i keep loseing by pennies )

Re: heat-slow

Pulled codes at lunch today, been hesitant to pull them as i didnt want to see a bunch wrong, but only one came up, B1340 mix door, cleared it and it came back right away so i think I found my problem.. but I'm wondering if I have 2 bad, one for floor heat and one for Hot/cold, would it trow 2 codes or just one if 2 where bad?

Re: heat-slow

I think you have one bad actuator. Pull the glove box and the lower insulator panel and change the heat setting. See which one does not move. That's the bad one.

The guys on Ebay may well have out bid you by $10, but Ebay will only up the antee on his behalf by $.050 or $1 above your bid. If the price is $50 and someone else bids $60, the high bid goes to $50.50. You bid $52. Ebay automatically bids $52.50 for him until his $60 is beaten. Problem is that you don't know what he actually bid until you beat him. It's somewhat of a poker game. Everyone waits til the last second so that you don't have time to place another bid if you guessed wrong.

Re: heat-slow

thanks Ranger, you sure answer alot here, almost all the questions (when i search) have you answering, nice to see that kind of help. I didnt get a chance to look just yet, but hopefully will soon. Temps have gotten more "normal North Dakota" so 10 below is about the worst in morning and heat is working normal (except for floor) now.

Re: heat-slow

Yeah, I DO spend too much time here. It's gotten to be like an addiction. I should seek help. Standby, the bottom is about to fall out of those North Dakota temps.
