hi guys i have a misfire on my 2002 sts n* the only code that shows up is p 0300 and also flashes when im driving . i know 0300 means misfire detected. but here is the thing , for this car being pretty much computer controlled and more so than alot of other cars in 2002 why doesent it say at least which cylinder has the miss? how would i check to see which coil to possibly replace ( front, rear) ? i dont belive its the engine internally , all the injectors tick away without missing a beat? ANY SUGGESTIONS ?

Re: any suggestions

How many miles you have? Maybe is time for the 100K recommended tune-up, the ’00 and up have the nice design with coils on the spark plug, no expensive spark plug wires to change, just spark plugs (<$100).

Re: any suggestions

What kind of plugs you got?
When I bought my car one of the first things I did was to replace the spark plugs with Bosch Platinum 4 (pretty expenive). Big, Big mistake, 3000 Km later it was worst than before. Eventually I took Ranger’s advice and changed back to the proper AC Delco (much cheaper too). I have over 60.000 Km since, purrs like a cat. Top of the hat for you Ranger

Re: any suggestions

Have you checked you COP boots? If you have a misfire chances are its something with your plugs or wires (in your case boots). Are you plugs properly gapped?

Re: any suggestions

If you're getting a P0300 code and the SES is flashing you're in the process of destroying your CAT convertor as well. You had better get it fixed pretty quickly or it'll bite you hard in the wallet.

The important point to remember here is that a general misfire code (P0300) is probably not ignition related but is due to a vacuum leak or fuel delivery problem. un quote! THANKS ALOT ! i just remembered i blasted throgh some snow last night to get into a parking spot , it was pretty deep but also it was like 3 in the am sooo that snow was like an ice burg. maybe it kinkt a fuel line or messed with a wire , or could be amazingly a coincidence..
