1999 STS Power window issue

Remove this ad
I'm having 2 different problems with the power windows in my '99 STS.

The passenger side front window won't move. The motor runs but nothing happens. I have the door apart but can't seen anything wrong with the window. Its seems that the motor is not connected to the regulator, any recommendations before i pull the regulator and motor assembly out.

Also both rear windows work just fine from the driver's control but not from their individual control. I was thinking that maybe there is a problem with the driver side switches possibly keeping them all locked.

Re: 1999 STS Power window issue

There should be a rear window lock out button on the drivers master switch. You probably have them disabled.

First thing i tried, the light on the lock out switch comes on when you hit it but in either position it doesn't work from the rear switches.

Re: 1999 STS Power window issue

Just found one thing out, the windows go up from the rear switches when unlocked but not down...

Re: 1999 STS Power window issue

it's probably the same as my 98 sts front passenger window the motor and regulator are one piece with the motor riveted to the regulator and it is one part number, the whole assembly looks like a crossbow, with one continious wire and 3 pulleys i did not see any way to fix mine and did a lot of shopping on line and the local bone yards, i ended up buying one from rock auto because they werte the least expensive (only $45.00more than a 10 year old one from the bone yard $235 plus shipping

Re: 1999 STS Power window issue

It has to be something common to both windows than. I think you're gonna need a wiring schematic unless take a shot at throwing some parts at it, but that could get expensive.

Re: 1999 STS Power window issue

I looked through all nine pages of the tech tips section and the only one I found was regarding the plastic piece breaking and putting something there to hold the cable in place, But my cable is broken

Re: 1999 STS Power window issue

In that case I believe you are SOL and will have to replace the motor.
