1991 Eldorado Brake Light & Turn Signal Problem

Remove this ad
I have a 1991 Eldorado and the brake lights and turn signals are not working. The high mount brake light and tail lights work but no brake lights and the turn signals are so dim you cant see them through the lens covers. I can't find any blown fuses or relays. What am I missing? Please Help!!!

Have you checked the grounds?

Not yet...I checked the fuses and the switch and they seem to be working fine. You would not happen to know where these lights would be grounded at would you? Thanks for your help in advance.

Re: 1991 Eldorado Brake Light & Turn Signal Problem

I would bet on the gorunds as well - I would expect them to be somewhere in the rear fender well or trunk area behind the carpet. The other common part to turn signals and non-CHMSL brake lights is the turn signal switch in the steering column. If it has become carboned up or has a bad connection in the column wiring that could also be the source of your problem. Start by checking the voltage in the socket using both the socket connections and a known good ground.

Re: 1991 Eldorado Brake Light & Turn Signal Problem

Sounds like a classic grounding issue to me. Check all of your ground connections, escpecially your main ground to body.
