who designed this ?

Remove this ad
Hey there. i am having ALOT of bad luck.
2000 eldo. i changed my oil yesterday. got a bit of oil over the cap and it drips down like it should with in the little blocked off area.
this morning i start the car and it say " service charging system"
battery at 12.1 volts
ALTERNATOR IS GONE!
a couple weeks ago........ my 94 alt went the DAY AFTER i changed the oil with a bit of oil dripping over the thing.
94 eldo oil change with a bit of oil silage. next day alt was dead
00 eldo oild change with a bit of oil spillage... next day the alt is dead

WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
who ever designed this god damn thing is retarded... WHY would you make it that the oil that spills when pouring it is DIRECTED right on top of the god damn alternator!!!
OBVIOUSLY people are GOING To spill a bit of it... oil should not ruin a alternator it should lube it and make it run better.
so WHY is this happening.
CAUTION people who do there own oil. DO NOT spill a drop of oil on the valve cover so that it is directed to flow onto the alternator

Re: who designed this ?

This is the 1st time I have heard of this and there are a lot of DIY'ers here. Surely there must have been some spilled oil before. Coincidence maybe?

Re: who designed this ?

I use a Prestone yellow wide neck funnel that is so old I have no idea where it came from and have never spilled so much as a drop of oil. I can see on my '02 that oil could get to the alternator, but it would take a pretty good slug. If oil got to the slip rings, perfect insulator because they carry only a tiny field voltage, no current. Try cleaning the slip ring end with throttlebody cleaner.

I use a large sized soda pop bottle with the bottom cut out.

Re: who designed this ?

i would have but i had none. i am usually pretty good with it i flip the bottle right with the neck down the filler and stab a hole in the bottom of the oil jug to let the air vent so it flows faster.
its just the but that gets out the initial "turn over"
for some reason i think its Coincidence..... because the 94 eldo's alt the brushes were broken and totaly disitigrated. can oil even do that to the bushes on it?
i am going to be interested to see what happened to this alt..
my guy who took my first one is going to think i'm on crack. going through so many alts... i already get" why do you have two eldo's" and the stupid look,

Re: who designed this ?

Couple of drips of oil will not ruin a alternator. You simply had a different problems happen 1 day apart.

Re: who designed this ?

for some reason i doubt that.
didnt you see how it worked out.
exact same problem on both cars after doing a oil change with some spillage.
the only thing that even got close to the alternator is the oil.

try it. go home and spill some oil and see what happens.
