Power Loss Update

Remove this ad
Still having a power loss issue w/ my very clean 1990 Seville (120K). At Highway speeds going up a grade . At 75 mph The tranny drops out of OD then I slow down to 60 mph . I got the thing floored. It will eventually go in the passing gear real hard. Like I'm getting rear ended. No codes except E30 History. The Tranny Fluid is very clean. The throttle body is also clean.
No catalytic convertor (test Pipe) New Fuel filter. Any Ideas??
Thanks,Mark

Re: Power Loss Update

Possible weak fuel pump pressure. You need to verify fuel pressure is at spec when this occurs. Install fuel pressure gauge with a long enough hose to be able to tape the gauge to the winshield.

Re: Power Loss Update

Mine just did this too starting a week ago, im almost positive its the fuel pump. I was on a long trip and it started doing it when my fuel was getting low, I'm suspecting you were below a 1/4 tank as well. I had a few gallons of gas left and got off a exit and it died on the exit ramp, would not restart. Added a gallon of gas and made it to the gas station going 10mph. When I filled it up it ran perfect again.

Re: Power Loss Update

Sounds a little like the classic fuel tank baffle collapse problem causing the pump to starve, although that was usually in turns as opposed to going up or down.
