Angry 92 Eldorado overheating when dr slow/stoped

Remove this ad
Hi, Thank God for people helping each other.

I have a 92 Eldo /4.9 thats heats up to 235 then drops and keeps temps around 203 to 216. If stoped in traffic it heats up to 235 or more.

1. I changed the Thermostat
2. flushed out cooling system twice
3. Changed Temp sensor by Thermostat
4. Both cooling fans run but only if I pull the plug off of the Temp sensor.
5. Checked fan fuses. Ok Can not find any fan relays under the hood.
Found the main amp fuses under the cover of the regular fuse panel on
drivers side under hood.
6. Uses coolant. but no leaks.
7. There is a sign that coolant comes out of the reservoir

No loss of power or white smoke

Did you make sure to get all the air out of the cooling system? Its not technically overheating, thats around 260-265, I'd be worried about using coolant with no external leaks.

Relays might be between the fans.

Any air in the system should purge itself aftere afew heat cycles if the cap is working properly.

Not a good sign. might want to have the coolant tested for exhaust gases.

For what it's worth, the cooling fan relays are in front of and below the engine compartment fuse block. You'll have to remove the fender shroud that surrounds the fuse block to get to them. There are three fan relays, and they are right in back of and above the vapor canister.

Also, if you haven't already, take a good look at the bottom of your water pump to see if there are any signs of leakage.

Thumbs down Re: 92 Eldorado overheating when dr slow/stoped

Well the real problem was air in the cooling system. All of my older Caddys never had so much problems with the cooling system. The older motors can be ran hard with out the thought of blowing the piss out of them!

Now I my temp is around 201- 203. When in stop and go traffic it will rise to 235 then drops down to the low 200's. I did replace the 3 relays which was buried under the fuses. I only have 82,000 miles on her. Sher a babe , but you cant run these new paper thin motors at 5 or 6 grand with out paying for it.....IS THERE ANY WAY OF SETTING THE FANS TO GO ON SOONER ???.....

Re: 92 Eldorado overheating when dr slow/stoped

No. The PCM controls when the fans come on. They will run continuously when the A/C is on though.

Exclamation Re: 92 Eldorado overheating when dr slow/stoped

Thanks for all of your help. I did notice that my a/c was low and that's when it all started. I do have a friend that has R-12 so I don't have to
change over to the new kit yet. Hope there is not a big leak.
I do like the car but its still not the solid car they made ..say before the HT 4100 junk. I love the Northstars power buy you pay to keep it..

Maybe after I charge the a/c it will ran better too. I dont know whats tied in to each other any more.
