I saw that episode. Its hard to argue with dyno #s, but I still remain skeptical. I like to give new items a little time on the market before taking their claims to heart, even with the TV show testing them.

If you've ever changed plugs/wires on another vehicle, I would say that you can certainly handle the task.

I just changed mine this weekend and it was really the easiest plugs/wires change I have ever done. I pulled the strut tower brace and coils off and the rear plugs were then easily accessed.

Re-routing the wires back to the original configeration was the most time consuming thing. Luckily, I was at my parents garage and I was able to use my mom's Deville as a reference. Might not hurt to take a couple of digital pictures or draw a little diagram if you are interested in getting the wires all back in the same place.

I say go for it! PM me if you run into a snag.

Eric

Torque Wrench, WHATS THAT? I don't think I've ever used a torque wrench for any set of spark plugs I've ever done on any vehicle. Snug is all it really has to be. I trust my hands more than a torque wrench when it comes to plugs, especially on an aluminum head. Torque wrench works great on a new engine, but when it's got thousands of miles of dirt and oil and crap in the threads and has been heat cycled thousands of time, I'd much rather have a direct feel of how the plug is interacting with the thread in the head than trust a setting on a wrench.

If your doing spark plugs, you might as well change the air filter, and clean the throttle body too while you in there.

danbuc, Your point is well taken, BUT, for a member to advise a new poster to "just crank em' down snug" and then have the guy flame back in here with a stripped head is irresponsible.

Better to give the GM recommended procedure and stay safe........

True True, don't want anyone stripping the threads out of there head Man, that would suck. Was really just reffering to me doin it myself, didn't mean to say that everyone should do it that way. I think I looked at the torque spec once......

On a side note, if you do the plugs yourself....MAKE SURE TO SET THE GAP FIRST! I finished putting in all my plugs, and on the last one I suddenly remembered that the 41-950 plugs were set to .50 instead of the .45 I needed. OUt they came, and thus another half hour was wasted on forgetfulness.
