Hey everyone. Well, those of you who remember, I purchased my Cadillac Eldorado on May 18, 2008. Was in perfect condition. This Monday on my way home from work, I was stopped in traffic on the freeway, and someone rear-ended me. Got an estimate from my insurance today, and said the repairs exceed the value of the car, so it's a total loss. Today was exactly one month since I got the car. I think that's the shortest time I ever owned a car. I suffered no injuries from the accident though. The car that hit me was totaled. The parts that needed to be replaced on the Cadillac was the left rear quarter panel, the entire rear bumper assembly, and the trunk top, and the left rear taillight. Those four pieces, with labor and paint labor, cost about $6900. Retail value on the car was about $6500 or so.
I was on a 4-year contract, so I guess that's one way to get rid of the contract and get out from underneath the vehicle. I loved driving the Cadillac, but with premium gas prices around $4.80 a gallon around here in California, my wallet was suffering everytime I filled up.
My next car will be slightly more fuel-efficient, and a V6 at best..no more V8s. My truck has a V8. One V8 is enough to have.
I did love the car for the 600 or so miles I drove it in a month, and the $210 in gas.
I have the factory 1995 Cadillac Eldorado service manuals (2-volume set) if anyone is interested in them.
It's going to take anywhere between one month and six months to solve the claims and everything involving the accident. I will keep everyone posted.
Hope everyone's having a good week!
