Re: So where do you park if you don't want door dings?
I park as far away from everybody as possible. hey it may be a little longer of a walk. But that sure beats any door dings which are almost a guarantee if you park in the closes spot you can find. Most people could give two shi** about your car. So I try my best not to even give m a chance
Re: So where do you park if you don't want door dings?
There is no avoiding the ding. I work retail and see many buggies way out in the parking lot away from the crowed. All it takes is one good strong wind and away the buggy goes.
If I was not so well known at my store, I would have laughed aloud when I saw one shopper leave his/her buggy right beside his/her truck and the side mirror caught the buggy.

I agree with others here that most people people don`t give a sh-- about their rides---they put gas in them and "maybe" an oil change now and then.I observe the condition of vehicles when i go shopping at the places with huge parking lots.Overall, the rides parked closest to the store are really not well maintained. There are exceptions,of course--not many.
I always park my Caddy as far away as possible from the other rides to avoid door dings--but watch out for those stray carts on a windy day.I`ve seen too many of those sail into doors/fenders to mention. It happened to me once while i was in the vehicle--luckily it was my winter ride.
I was taught at a very young age by my late father to take great care of my vehicle---no matter the make of it.He kept his vehicles an average 17 years each, and if it was`nt for the brutal winters here in Michigan, which rusted out his rides,he could have kept them much longer.

Thats exactly how I am, although my Dad wasn't very good when it came to preventive maintence until I forced the issue on him.
My Deville is a 97', it has a few scratchs here and there, but no parking lot dings. Why? Because I park away from traffic, that is a HUGE thing when it comes to prolonging the beauty of a car.
Re: So where do you park if you don't want door dings?
I am partial to this as well. If i can find other high end cars in the lot i park there, because i know they don't want the dings either, so they are cautious as well. But for the most part i notice it's women who ding other cars. one time i was walking to my car and a woman parked in a suburban opens her door straight into mine and she jjust sort rubbed the spot with her fingernail to get her white paint off my black paint. and she was rather surprised when she realized i was the owner of the black eldo, rather just someone walking by, so i asked her for her insurance and documentation and explained to her that she will have to pay to get it fixed. SHE REFUSED., Now i'm not usually a di(khead to people, but she said "IT'S just a little ding, no one else will even know it's there". This pissed me off, (this was at a home depot parking lot) so i put the rubber mallet that i had just purchased to good use and put a ding on her door and told her that nobody else will even know it's there, got in my car and took off.
I CANNOT stand the ignorance of some people and the lack of respect for other people's property. my .02

I usually try to park in an area with some open space. I do like Ranger's suggestion about avoiding two door cars. Never really thought about that but it makes a lot of sense.
