Eldo - anybody switch from 16 in stock to 17 in caddy stocks?

Remove this ad
Just wondering if anyone who owns a 96-02 eldorado has updgraded from the 16in caddy stocks to 17in caddy rims. I found some sweet caddy 17 inch rims looking around and after reading through this forum I don't want to upgrade to larger rims that would affect the smoothness of my ride. This is my first Caddy and I love the looks, but that caddy smooth ride is what does it for me. Just wondering if anyone has made the switch from 16inch to 17inch caddy rims and if they noticed any differences in the smooth caddy ride.

.................and it looks great and rides better. Make sure you get the physical specs of your OEM 16's and keep the same outside tire diameter on the new 17's. That way you avoid car speed and tire revolution data mistakes.

Re: Eldo - anybody switch from 16 in stock to 17 in caddy stocks?

I can answer this one just because I have been trying to locate some 17s and been reading alot here about wheels, most of the Cadillac factory 17's will fit, just make sure the bolt pattern is 5x115 and not the 5x120 (as some of the newer one's have), also, some of the newer STS wheels come in the right bolt pattern but
staggered, such as the front wheel is 7.5" wide and the back one is 8, I've found some nice looking wheels like this but am thinking it may look akward with our FWD's.
You can go to wheelcollision.com and they will give you all the factory cad. wheels with the specs on them.

Re: Eldo - anybody switch from 16 in stock to 17 in caddy stocks?

Bolt Pattern: 5x115
Center Bore: 70.3
Hardware:12x1.50 Lug
Offset: 34-45mm

best tire: 245/50-17 (gives the closest possible to original diamater)
2nd best tire: 235/55-17 (gives 2nd closest)

There are the specs you will want to fall into. I have had 17s on my 99 eldo for several months now. My opinion is it is barely noticable difference in ride. I went with the 245/50-17 because the keep your mph as accurate as possible, plus i like the lower look of the 245/50s compared to the 235/55s. The only difference I could really tell was it is a little rougher over bumps and uneven pavements. But on good surfaces no difference that I have been able to tell. And they look much better in my opinion. Not too big but just enough size to stand out from your oem 16's.

My ex-girlfriends are the only one's that suggest changing to a bigger diameter might improve my life. I disagree...
