Re: Selling my STS and I find I'm elitist. . . or something

I bought my STS certified pre-owned as the third owner in it's short life. The first owner was Hertz as a rental and then the second owner had a short time and did some minor mod's on her, such as chrome on doorposts, wheels, v-type grill etc. I had numerous minor issues and many trips to the Caddy dealer for repairs. I didn't buy a new car for that. I bought my previous car, a 2001 Monte Carlo brand new. To me, there is nothing like the smell of a new car, especially the leather in the Cadillac. Plus, you totally control what happens to the car. If I could afford it, I would have rather bought my Caddy brand new. I am hoping to buy my future Caddy's brand new so I will not have to deal with the issues I had. Granted I was given a Caddy loaner everytime, but it was still annoying.

Just my 2 cents worth.

I am not being a snob, but sometimes buying a brand spanking new car is better than buying pre-owned.

WOW, I'm sure glad the guy I bought my 96 STS from didn't think that way! I have a "blue-collar" job, but am still a car enthusiast who happened to fall in love with that particular body style. I looked around and spent some time searching for the nicest condition, lowest mileage and best optioned car I could find for the money. I definitely appreciated the "fine luxury car" I purchased back then and still do. Here's a suggestion: treat the prospective buyer like you would someone applying for a position at your business. You could have them fill out an application stating why they would be a good owner and have them list all their references for past vehicle purchases. You could then spend your time going over all the applications, contacting the references, conducting interviews,.......or better yet, just sign the title over to the first person who has cash in hand as long as it's not your neighbor or your brother-in-law!!!

Re: Selling my STS and I find I'm elitist. . . or something

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just wondering what a "blue-color" job is? What color must their job be to allow them to drive a Cadillac?

I was wondering the same thing. Based on the purchase price that you can buy one of these after its 4-5 years old....really?

There are a lot of factory workers who could buy a 15K car

There are many cars out there that are still over 30K , to buy, when they are 5 years old( mercedes S class, BMW 7 to name a couple)....so I guess the elitist term is all in who you are talking to

I bet if you asked 10 people what car had the most status out there not many of them would say a Cadillac
Even if you bought it new...I guess I would have to question the percentage of resale the car does not keep...mine was 56K sticker new in May 2002...I know if probably sold for about 45-46K after the dealer discounts..I bought it for $10,200 with 59,000 miles 6 months a go from a dealer
what did he buy it for at the auction?...9k?

Am I missing something here?...I am missing the elitist point here

Re: Selling my STS and I find I'm elitist. . . or something

Wonder where the elitist impression came from? For years Cadillac put the following page in the font of the owners manual, which was leather bound. This is from my 89Bro' manual. Quite amazing to read these days. It originally appeared in 1915. K_C

Im a little curious as to that too.
Didnt realize that white collar workers had there heads that far up......................(ahem..) into the clouds, to not have a clue as to what some of us regular folks actually make.
We dont all make minimum wages. Some of us actually have skills that are sought after.
We have to know maths and all that complicated books learnin stuff too.
And we also get payed quite well for what we know. Some even comparable if not more than white collar.
The only difference is, that we're not afraid of "hard" work and getting our hands dirty.

I would not worry about it....I think there are some people on here that really need to take a look at what they are calling elite..really?..lol

Based on some of the blue collar workers earnings...even an average union wage...based on the resale of these cars after 4 years....is that really any leap to be able to afford a Cadillac?
Not to dicsount any blue collor worker at all....but a 2003 STS should be well within their budget

if you think a 2003 STS is elite...who is able to buy a 4 year old 7 series BMW...the lead statesmen of a a country....??..lol

I am not a blue collar individual..and could afford to have bought the 2002 STS I own now brand new...but would not have done so in a million years

resale is WAY too low...so I have a 7 series BMW and bought the STS as a work car

Keep these elistist terms in perspective..please
or..just keep them period

I wasnt worried about it. I was just a little "curious" is all.
Curious being the key word.
As were a few members replies.
It was not only I that was also curious as I recall.

Why is it that Im always the one quoted and or told to not worry about it ?
I speak my mind and dont necessarily "worry" about it.
So why is it that so many seem to want to "tell" me not to worry about things."
I was only agreeing on the same lines as to what WinnipegCadillac had to say. As well as what you had to say (turnne)
As well as others on the pages of this thread.

Im perfectly relaxed my friend.

Was only saying that I was curious as well...... as to blue and white......As to the ignorance of some that believe there positions are rated higher than others.

You join the debate with which appears to be the same prospective.
But you join with an attack of, Dont Worry About It, directed right at MurphyG

Your obviously one of those passive non aggressive "Hey ! Nay !" saying followers.
But with a touch of a slight more.
Not as much as too lazy and too easy to manipulate. Not as much as too lazy to commit to a side of anything unless its absolutely adamant.
But still slightly informative only because of ignorance. Just for the almighty. Just for the "jab".

Just to pick one individual person out of 4 pages. To pick one individual that has read all of a thread.
And to wait to tell this "ONE" individual to "Not Worry About It" even though his opinion is the same as yours. As well as others in the thread. That is too damned confusing ???
Even though you felt it was MurphyG alone that shouldnt have been offended, and that "I" shouldnt worry about it.
Im quite sure there were a couple that wondered about/were maybe offended about it also. But you decided to pick me personally to state to "ME" personally to not be personally worried about it !@!

If you agree with what others have said .....cool.............if you would like to debate what others have said.........very cool.

Tell me to relax, but then agree with me ?

Pick a "Hay" or a "Nay" and get off my back.

Pick a side to Bitch about. Dont pick a name to be a Bitch towards.

If you want to tell OTHERS not to worry about something. May I suggest that you wait until others came and ask for your opinion ?!? I myself did not ask for your opinion.

Re: Selling my STS and I find I'm elitist. . . or something

I asked I bunch of Car freaks on the Pontiac GP forums to rate luxury cars in order of which they would rather drive if money was no object...... Jags, Lexus, MB, BMW, Caddys, etc... Do you know that the Cadillacs ranked 3rd right under MB and BMW???!!!!!!! .. I was really surprised to see Caddy just edge the Lexus and Infiniti!!!!

I think the litmus test here might be to look at what cars are in the front line of the valet parking spots......

To my knowledge I haven't seen a Cadillac in that type of spot in years in 25 years( with the rare exception of an Escalade here and there)

Thye are usually more crowded with S class Benz..7 series Beemers...and Exotics...and few Audi A8;s , Hummers, a few Porches's..etc

I myself don't really see an elitist aura around a Cadillac...I read the file from the owners manual of 1989( posted earlier)....however during that period where I grew up...Dallas Texas...Mercedes Benz and BMW's were by far the cars to have/what the elite drove

So Cadillac = elitist...I say no way
