Re: Selling my STS and I find I'm elitist. . . or something
Elitist? If you're worried about the prospective buyers setting themselves up for the heartache of expensive repairs that may overextend their budget, you could sit down & explain that to them so they can weigh the pros & cons for themselves. I agree that there are people who haven't given much thought to "why" a Caddy is so luxurious, so they're not fully aware of the all the special gizmos that make the car special but can be expensive to repair / replace / retrofit.
If, on the other hand, you're worried about the "quality of care" your STS will get after you sell it, then you're more like a parent worrying about your baby being in good hands after "leaving home" so to speak. If you strongly feel that way, and if the question of car care in someone else's hands really weighs on you, should you be selling the car at all? Just a thought...
Re: Selling my STS and I find I'm elitist. . . or something
lbwd,
Wow that look great.. For the miles you'll beat my STS hand down as the best looking...LOL ,. Those wheels are KILLER!..
To the OP...
If your going to sell the Caddy, you should not be worried about what happens to it after you are paid in FULL for your asking price.
It's their Caddy niw. Sounds like you do not want to part with the CADDY. Here in Geogria we have tons of Illegals driving old Caddies.. as well as Druggies... .. So.. Retards will get their hands on a Caddy regardless if they get your car or another one... Don't bend yourself out of shape over it...
Re: Selling my STS and I find I'm elitist. . . or something
I just don't think it's right to pass judgement on the person you're selling your car to. How do you really know what the person is like? Maybe the husband is a closet gearhead and will take better care of the car than you will.
I suppose I just don't follow the logic, because it seems to go like this... "I'm better than the original owner because he was too stupid to pay full price for a new car... and I'm better than the next people who owned it because... well, just because."
Honestly... It almost seems like an attempted justification for one's own superiority complex. I guess I just never thought about it because there's really nothing to think about... I can see no merit, nor lack thereof in whether one is the first, second, or third owner of the car.
I'm not trying to be mean nor insult anyone... but people buy cars for many different reasons, and none of them should be any concern to anyone else. If you're going to sell a car, the only prerequisite a buyer needs to pass is the ability to pay for it.
Re: Selling my STS and I find I'm elitist. . . or something
first of all, the "elitist" thing wasn't something I was considering myself to be based on buying secondary, thus being smarter than the original owner, it was me thinking I appreciated the STS more than my blue-collar employee. When I found myself thinking that way, I was disturbed by my elitist attitude.
My employee decided not to buy my car. I bought a Suburban this weekend anyway, and now I need to figure out what to do with the STS. I don't need two cars, and the Suburban will be more practical now, even with the gas prices as they are.
I have rally enjoyed the STS, and I do think I am able to appreciate it more than many people, but I find I am not as attached to cars as some people are.
After reading "Rich Dad, Poor Dad" and "The Millionaire Next Door" and other similar books, I am leaning more towards cars as being transportation, and not too worried about them as status symbols.
. . . but I still want a '98 Corvette next summer. Must be my mid-life crisis.
Re: Selling my STS and I find I'm elitist. . . or something
I find myself thinking the same thing. it reminds me of a thread I found a while back where the tire guy at Sam's Club said that the STS wasn't that different from his Taurus. I guess they are both built in America and they both have four wheels and a horn... so he is kind of right.
But I am so in to taking car of my car and when I got rid of my Eldorado I knew it was going to kill me to see it locally so I made sure that it went out of town. Prior to that I had an old Buick (first car) that I took great care of and when I saw that car in town it would just ruin my day. Luckily I got rid of it at 250K so it didn't last very long for the guy that bought it.

Luckily???? Certainly not for the new owner!!! LOL.
I sold a 1995 Aurora that I dearly loved a few years ago to a local lady and I learned that it blew the motor about 4 months after the sale. I got rid of it because I didn't want to have ti happen to me, but I certainly felt bad for that lady that bought it. Still, she bought a car that had 235,000 miles on it and you have to expect cars with lots of miles to break sooner or later.
. . . and I don't think that lady appreciated the Aurora and its cutting edge innovations either.

I have an interesting story- I went out to lunch with a girl and her friend from my college. I'd known her for maybe 4 days. We played the music loud on the touchscreen nav and I did a couple WOTs with the Corsa. We pulled into the mall, and when I hit lock on the keyfab and my pearl white beauty honked back, the girls both looked back at her. Must've been a decisive moment, cuz the girl i knew better just up and said "Nice car." "Thanks" I said, pride bursting but trying not to show it. Said she: "You must get a lot of girls' numbers driving in that car" "Nah" i said, wishing what she said was true. But then, like a freight train: "No, really, I know at least a dozen girls who would sleep with you cuz of your car"....... I did not want to know what kind of girls, so I didn't ask. But i turned up the charm and said "What about you?" She smiled/blushed.
Sex appeal. Not the best aspect about my car but definately the most arousing .
So what category do I fall into? I mean, I know I'm secondary- a retired farmer that (thank god) did not live on a gravel road was the primary owner of my 02 STS. I did plenty of research/browsing to find her. I am infinately elated with my car. I am 21 years old but I don't think I fall into that "punk kid" group anymore... I really have grown to appreciate the fine automobile. And, so has pretty much everyone in my hometown, and surrounding small towns where I had friends. I took that car to parties, out to the movies, everyday cruises in and out of town, and there wasn't a single person who wouldn't comment on it. It became known as "Malone's Caddy". I truely believe I have done Cadillac good, I believe everyone I know around (ages 16-22) appreciates them more now just because a 19 year old kid had one and it was "cool"... Yay for the younger generation too...

Oh, yeah. They like em, too. I've observed with the eyes on the back of my head. They dig these.
