Headlight dimming while braking

Remove this ad
Just to quench my perverse curiosity, I am curious about this. The headlights on my 98 Eldo dim slightly when I brake. Is this something that anybody else has experienced? Any ideas on what may be the cause?

Re: Headlight dimming while braking

Battery is good. Perhaps a battery cable? Maybe a ground issue?

Re: Headlight dimming while braking

then your alt is not properly charging it

check the cables if they are good you can add a redundant (or secondary) ground in the hopes maybe that fixes it
if all else fails are your sure the batt is good, your lookin at an alt going soon

Re: Headlight dimming while braking

Yup, that's a very typical sign of a alternator getting week.

Re: Headlight dimming while braking

go to autozone or the like and have them test your charging system, if that doesn't show anything you can always run your car WOT on the highway over 100mph and watch your voltage, if you don't have them in the DIC you can add it, there is a description on how to do it somewhere, and you should get a 'service charging system' message as it drops below 12V...
