Eldorado 1999 Water passenger side carpet

Remove this ad
Hello,
we own a Cadillac Eldorado 1999. Yesterday we noticed (especially me) that water poured into the passenger side coming from underneath the dashboard. That only happens when the AC is on and when accelerating or driving around a corner. You can see the water pouring on to the carpet. Its not coolant from the engine (I hope), its clear water. It doesn't smell at all. What can it be? Is it AC coolant or just water the AC generates when its running?
Thanks a million for your help!
Lars

Sounds like you evaporator drain is plugged. You'll have to go underneath and either blow it out with compressed air or try to get something thin in the drain to clean it out.

99.99% it's the heater core, up under the dash behind a plastic cover, makes the carpet wet...

Re: Eldorado 1999 Water passenger side carpet

Is the heater core connected to the main engine cooling system? It really smells like nothing and the water is clear, like from the faucet. can i repair/fix it myself? I used to be a car mechanic back in the 1980's. Or is it AC related? The water is freezing cold. Obviosly I will start with easy fixes, like trying to unplug the evaporator drain. Thank you!

Re: Eldorado 1999 Water passenger side carpet

heater core is connected to coolant system yes. It may be A/C related, could have condensation from the A/C system not properly draining though I've never heard of this...

Re: Eldorado 1999 Water passenger side carpet

Lars,.......There's a condensate drain fitting for the evaporator on the lower right side of the A/C blower box in front of the console trim panel. You might be able to see it from the left foot passenger carpet panel area...the panel will pull off. The hose goes down under the car on the passenger side or into the right lower fenderwell area. Find the hose outlet and blow it clear. Dust, dirt, leaves. Service manual shows a 90 degree drain fitting.......
