Here is a thought. Buy a 2 year GMACPP warrenty on a used 03 sts with the dreaded transmission leak. On line I can buy it at 1445.00 200.00 diductible. 24 months 24k miles drive the car for a couple weeks take it to the dealership and have the tranny leak noisy blower and loose tie rods fixed under warrenty. My only question is since the vehicles already been to a dealership in Cleveland and inspected could I pull this off?

Re: Extended Warranty Question

Many extended warranty companies go out of business (with your money). Google this topic. Policy owner is left high and dry.

Many many exclusions with third party warranty companies; beware.

Re: Extended Warranty Question

Does anyone know if an extended warranty would cover the N* head gasket problem? Would it be considered a mechanical failure of the head bolts or a head gasket failure? Some extended warranties don't cover gaskets and seals, unless they fail as a result of a covered mechanical item. I just bought a 2000 sts with 43000 miles and would like to protect myself from costly engine or transmission work.. thanks...

Re: Extended Warranty Question

Take the cost of the extended warranty and the deductible and put the total in your own money market. IF the time comes to fix the car, you'll have the lion's share of the cost in your own bank account. Why pay someone else when there are no guarantees of mechanical failure, the hassle to get the warranty honored (trust me), and the fact that you'll pay interest if you roll the extended warranty into any other payments...

It all depends on the fine print and what actually fails. Since this is a known problem, you can bet that there will be some. Read it closely. Personally, I'd go with Subs advice. Why pay in advance for a repair that you may not need.
