Why only today I checked the oil for the second time and found it boringly down a whole 1/8 of an inch after 4,000 miles of boring driving. And it still is clean. Driving the Eldorado is never boring. You constantly have to watch the temperature gauge with every mile you drive for fear of severely overheating it. You get lots of exercise lifting that big hood to check the oil level and it never gets boring pouring quart after quart of oil into the N*. There is the constant adrenaline rush from the Eldorado when it is cold and there is steam in the exhaust. You sweat bullets on a cold day thinking another head gasket has bit the dust. Cadaiiacs are never boring. Thank goodness the Toyota is very very BORING, I can't stand the constant angst of the non-boring Cadillac. |

I love Caddies as much as the next guy but to consider the LS a POS is just stupid. And using a Camry as your basis for comparison is completely unrealistic. |

I never had a single problem with my Northstar Caddy's.. So I have nothing but respect for the Northstar. Cadillacs are for one type of person - Lexi are for another. That's all there is...

Not be cause I like Japanese cars (I don't) but mostly because of what Lutz and Red Ink Rick is doing to our beloved brand...
Lets review
1) They are killing the STS in 2 years... Dead, done, gone.. Crap
2) They have killed the 32V V8 Northstar replacement. Nooo!
3) They will probably kill ALL V8 Caddies within 4-5 years. Great...
4) The XLR is also going to die in 2010/11.. Say it isn't so..
5) The Deville will limp along until 2012/2013 basically unchanged.. Flog that horse!
So lets say I'm the world's most loyal GM buy... Me and my family have been buying GM exclusively since 1956.
OK lets say I'm also a middle aged guy, upper middle class, nice chunk of disposable "mad money" income. You know Cadillac PERFECT target market.
I want a large, luxurious RWD Sedan with a modern smooth 32V V8 making 350-400HP. After 2010 what does GM have in the bullpen? Nada Zilch Zero... Unless something radical happens and happens soon Cadillac will end up like Oldsmobile.
I don't want to buy a LS... Lutz and Rick are FORCING me into the hands of the competition. |

98-00 LS 400 is possibly the best built luxury car of the post war era.
I have yet to experience any car that ages as well as the LS400.
Even Lexus engineers put this car in a different quality category compared to the rest of their lineup, based on accumulated data tracking common failed parts. It's the car that sent the luxury industry scrambling back in the fall of 1989 ... a far cry from an "Avalon with wood trim".
I don't get the sofa crack ... I've owned 4 STS', and compared to the LS400,the STS feels like a sofa rolling on 3 square castors.
Don't get me wrong ... I really enjoyed the STS as a grand touring car.
I thought my 01 STS had aged quite well ... but my 2000 LS 400 is
simply in another league in terms of retained build quality. |

Anyway..I traded it for a BMW 740...that has been relaible...but nothing like an LS430( from what I hear)...I just wished they drove better....one of the main reasons I bought the BMW was its driving feel...AND the fact the BMWs seem to be holding resale very well
As then I bought the STS as my work car
As for all this driving excitement that the STS has that was mentioned earlier in this thread....I am missing something I guess....becuse there isa HUGE difference when I switch cars and drive the BMW
BUT for the difference in the prices of 5 years old used cars...STS, LS, BMW 7 series...I guess you get what you pay for
