96 SLS A/C Problems - pressure?

1996 SLS
Cannot locate a leak with dye or a "sniffer"... losing freon... got the warning message "very low refrigerant".... recharged, and lasted for about 4 days.

Dealership has tried to find the leak with the dye, as well as the electronic sniffer... to no avail....

Anybody else ever experience this?

Re: 96 SLS A/C Problems - pressure?

I was just told most likely it is an evaporator box.... approx $1000 for rprs (11 hours labor and $250 for the part??)

Make sense?? Any suggestions from those of you out there?

If its in the evaporator there is usually oil at the leak site. Remove the fan speed control module and examine the face of the evaporator for signs of oil. It's very easy to tell as dirt and debris stick to it. Also add a can of oil. I've never been able to tell any difference in system performance with over oiling but the effect of under oiling is quick and expensive:compressor lockup.

Have you changed the manifold/hose - the one that comes off the compressor - that is what normally leaks - it gets stressed when the front motor mount and the torque struts wear out
