Phantom Problem with Sun Roof

I have a 2001 Eldorado ETC, my hubby picked me up at the airport and it was really foggy outside and all of a sudden the sun roof opened on it's own and would not close. The switch kept clicking like it wanted to work. We were on our way home about 20 mins later - fog had cleared - I tried the switch and it closed.....weird. Also about a month ago I was in a very moist area after a rain and the Bose Stereo would not power up - the clock was on but could not get the power on for the cd/radio.....after a while about 1 hour of driving the moisture cleared, I tried the radio and it then worked.

Has anyone had issues with moisture, electronics and phantom things happening?

Never heard of a problem like that, but definitely sounds like it is moisture related. I am just shooting in the dark here, but I'd look for a connection on the firewall maybe that brings power to the cabin. Check the "weatherpack" seal on it. It looks like an accordion bellow around the connector.

Re: Phantom Problem with Sun Roof

In general, these are the hardest and most frustrating kind of problems to troubleshoot in my experience. That said, you can investigate areas that have both electricity and heat since it seems your problems may be caused by condensation that clears after heat is applied. Unfortunately, since that includes the engine compartment and cabin, that only initially removes the trunk, and even that shouldn't be completely ruled out. Check both of the fuse boxes - I think Eldo has the same set up as STS with one under the hood and one under the back seat. If one box has the radio and sunroof power in it I would suspect that more than the other. Past that I would need to see a wiring diagam to see if there are any modules involved that could be getting a bath.

Does your AC drain normally - will it leave a puddle after its been parked when the AC was running? I'm wondering if maybe the AC drain tube is plugged and not getting the condensation out of the car the way it should. I'm also assuming in both cases you had the car in Defrost to remove condensation from the windshield.

This is a real

Re: Phantom Problem with Sun Roof

Mt wife has a 95 STS Seville with the same problem. It seems the power sunroof wants to try to open on it's own after raining more. So far I have only tried to make sure the seal was good around the sunroof. A friend of mine who is a mechanic said water could be getting in and settling down by the switch, and causing this problem. Did you ever discover the prob? I will have to look at the fuse boxes.
