From Valvoline Max Life to Mobil 1 Synthetic

Well I did an oil change over the weekend and changed from Max Life to Mobil 1 Synthetic and I swear I can feel more power now. I plan to continue using Mobil 1 especially since I used the 15k oil. I didn't think it would make much difference but I think it has.

Re: From Valvoline Max Life to Mobil 1 Synthetic

djc, When I bought my STS 2 years ago I changed from whatever the Cad dealer had put in 4 months earlier to Pennzoil 5W-30 Platinum synthetic. Got the same impression as you and picked up 1/2 mpg highway. I still use it and a WIX51522 and am still a happy camper, but that's only 3 oil changes in the 2 years.....every 8 months. Car uses a quart every 3,500 miles, town or country, (and I don't baby it, by a long shot) and the drain oil comes out clear dark amber.

Re: From Valvoline Max Life to Mobil 1 Synthetic

I switched my 99 over to Mobil 1 first thing when I got it even after reading the oil war threads here. It turns black in about a week and stays that way until its changed, so I'm assuming there's still residual crap from its former life as a mommy-cruiser (26K miles in the previous 4+ years and probably no WOT ever). She gulps a quart every thousand, although usage does seem to be decreasing lately. $85 to get the oil changed but with the oil life monitor its only twice a year. I know I could do it myself and save half the cost, but I'm lazy and the place I take it to I can actually trust to do a good job. I've also run my wife's Concorde on full syn since I bought it new and it does get good mileage for the type of driving that she does. It may or may not be the oil, but since its the only new car I ever bought in 44 years I thought I'd try it.

Re: From Valvoline Max Life to Mobil 1 Synthetic

I paid 65 bucks for the oil and filter and did it myself. With that being said you are only spending twenty bucks to have someone else do it.
I get my supplies at Wal Mart the oil is pretty cheap there even more so than the auto parts store.
