HELP - 1998 STS - Switching to Arnott

I am in the process (dirty as we speak) of replacing my OEM shocks with Arnott's. Got them in okay (easy enough job - worst part was getting the trunk apart to get at the top nuts), but the new 'sensor' does not make sense to me. Does it just get tied to the control arm and sit there, or did I maybe get the wrong shocks? The OEM ones appear to have this brass (or brass-coloured) cylinder sit inside the shock, while the Arnott's do not have this. Any help would be greatly appreciated - dad wants to park his car in the garage tonight too!

Try to search the forum, I don't have too much experience with the switch. The shocks probably look different because they aren't active like the stock shocks. I would assume the sensor doesn't just dangle there tho.

Did the rears with Arnott air shocks on my '94. Those sensor alternatives should be strapped up out of harms way. They are to fool the system so you don't get codes. Worked fine for me.

Took about a thousand miles for the ride to smooth out---or is it that I got used to the feel.

Are the arnott shocks self leveling as well like OEM, and are they air shocks?

I believe they are (self-levelling) - they just aren't active. Thanks for the help guys - I ended up just strapping the sensors to the control arms. Will see how they are later today.

have the same issue with arnott's rear struts.got worried at first but if you say the solenoid only needs to be strapped out of the harms way that's cool.

Got an reply from Arnott's as well:

The shocks are passive not electronic. Those sensors only bypass the computer. We used to weld them to the shock, but found that it caused weak spots in the shock. So now we just include the bypass sensors separately. Just plug them in and tie them up out of sight. Sorry for any inconvenience.
