Code questions

Remove this ad
Hello, new to the site and new to the world of cadillacs. Sorry about the length just have a few questions. I just picked up a 1998 seville sts with 109000. I am only getting heat on the passenger side. So i ran the codes and i got B1340 - air mix door one movement. Is this under the dash on the drivers side, and what should I look for? I also have a few other codes that i need help with. I am getting the c1722 and c1727 - right and left rear damper open circuit. I think that is because the rear shocks are passive (I have resistors that suposedly will fix that but not sure). And lastly, I have c1738 exhaust solenoid short to gnd. Any help with any of these is greatly appriciated. Oh, and I searched, just didn't find what i needed. THANKS!!!!

Re: Code questions

The air mix door actuator are on the passenger side. One is accessible after removing the glove box and the other from underneath. Run the temp up and down while watching them and you'll see which is not moving. Might just be a disconnected linkage. If not then a bad actuator.

Correct.

C1738 is regarding the ELC (Electronic Level Control) compressor. The exhaust solenoid is serviceable I believe. It is behind the RR wheel.

Re: Code questions

Well I just now got to this. I can only find the one actuator and its the one for the pass side. I removed the glove box and looked evrywhere from underneath and i still can't find it. I removed the plastic panel underneath and the carpeted panel near the radio. WHERE IS THIS THING?

Re: Code questions

I thought they where both on the passengers side. They where on my '97 Deville. Assumed they where the same. Sorry if I led you astray.

Re: Code questions

Alright well i will give it another look tomorrow. Now im dealing with a bigger problem. It snowed for the first time and when i try to drive my car, my front end shakes and makes clunking noises. It feels like the wheels are going to fall off. I am not having good luck with this car.

Re: Code questions

It might have to do with your traction control, try shutting it off, button is in glove box.

Re: Code questions

Yea I actually thought about that, but it was just so noticable I figured something was wrong. But, when I went to drive it the next morning..... it was fine and hasn't done it since. I never found time to work on MY car again (brothers ball joint) so hopefully I can find that actuator under the driverside..thanks for all the help everyone

There is the possibility that you had ice and crap caught up in the wheel wells and every where. I actually had an experience like that once. Thought the whole front end was gonna come apart.

Could or couldnt be what happened to you. If it happens again when its snowy, take a look at it once you park to see if its all jammed up.

Re: Code questions

Well it snowed again and the same thing happened. I checked the wheels for a build up of snow or ice and found nothing. But I did notice that it only does it when I am driving on the snow. Once I get out to the salted roads, all is good and it drives fine. I tried turning my traction off but it still did the same thing. It feels like the front pass side wheel is falling off or going to collapse!

Re: Code questions

Check codes again. Possibly an ABS issue? Although you should get an ABS light if there is a problem. I would also have suspected traction control if you hadn't tried turning it off. No messages on the DIC when it happens?
