Exclamation Torque converter drivability change?

Remove this ad
I know that the best mod you can do to a STS would be a torque converter, but how would that change the true daily drivability witht he car? I dont wanna rev to 3000 just to take off lol. I want to do it because I have u-tube gone and exhaust. Just wanna step a lil higher but not take away the drivability of the car much,. I have heard up to a full half sec off of 1/4 times? I am sure its something like that because of the robbing the tranny takes from these Northstars!

Re: Torque converter drivability change?

I believe that convertor info is severely lacking in the sidewinder STS database because the mechanical nightmare and expense of just getting to it puts off a lot of owners looking for instant HP transfer gratification.

After I read your first post in this thread, I fooled around on a back road trying to guess the OEM stall speed of this setup, and no luck. With and without TC the stall occurs all over the 2,000 rpm band. Gotta be some info, somewhere. I'll snoop the FSM later today.

A few months ago there was some interest in convertors, but the PCM limiting factors and lack of posi or limited slip functions sort of makes higher stall speeds moot. (And the planet gears in the differential section are not exactly Moser or Auburn 12-bolt quality, either.)
