I used the search function and found nothing for mid 80's. Both my mirrors are loose where mirror meets the base. I thought I could tighten them up by taking door panel off then removing mirrors. No luck, it's the screws behind the mirror. Screws are rounded out. Does the mirror it self come out of the housing? Any easy way to change out screws?
I have had the same problem on my 84 Eldo. That is if you mean that the mirror's shell (housing) is loose on the stem which then attaches to the door.
I tried to get to the screws by tilting the mirror up as far as I could but I was never able to tighten it properly. The only way I see it is to remove the mirror. That will expose mounting screws to the mirror's gimbal. Once you take that assy. out, you'll have full access to those screws. But since the mirror is glued in, you'll most likely end up cracking it. It is not designed to be removable. I never attempted this. But if you feel like you could try prying the mirror out of it's base.
Same problem. I think I am going to try something sticky on the screwdriver tip to get them in and out, then loc-tite the poop out of them. I would break the mirror if I was to remove it! Thanks for the reply.
