Back again, with problems ugh.

Well so far this car has been nothing but a headache, but these three issues have me stumped and I'd REALLY like to fix them.

1.) When car is first started it will make a short grinding noise after put into gear then wont make a peep, I can feel the vibrations from the noise in the break pedal but I fear its something in the tranny.

2.) Something in the rear passenger side of the car clunks loudly whenever I go over bumps, really kills the joy of driving a Cadillac

3.) What are the best alternative shocks to the electronic ones on the car itself? I'm pushing 140,000mi and I wouldn't be surprised if they were original.

I really don't want to have to sell this car so soon, but if I cant get it straightened out then Im going to have to dump it on someone else.

Re: Back again, with problems ugh.

1.) Turn off your air conditioning and see if the sound continues. If it does then it's a bad clutch bearing for your A/C compressor.

2.) I find that the best way to find clunks is if you get under it with a rubber mallet, or just start trying to wiggle random stuff. Eventually you'll find the culprit. I remember once on my car, I let my friend do the breaks and he didn't tighten one of the big bolts holding the caliper to the knuckle. That made a very annoying clunk/rattle noise. But a clunk in the rear can be a lot of stuff.

3.) There's a bunch of different brands of passive shocks out there for your car. Do a forum search for "Passive shocks" to read up on each one.

Cool! Also, with the digital gauge clusters is it a plug and play deal? And can I use one from a 95 deville or Eldorado.

Dont sound like big problems to me. If you do decide to sell it let me know, Im in FL too and looking for a car like that as a backup ride.

Re: Back again, with problems ugh.

Could the noise Im hearing when I put it into gear be the clutch pack slipping? It sounds like when you grind the gears on a manual, only a bit more muffled.

Re: Back again, with problems ugh.

Sounds to me that it may be the ABS pump building pressure

Re: Back again, with problems ugh.

The bushing on the front stabalizer bar is always a good place to look for a clunk. You can't really tell by looking at it. This is an inexpensive easy fix.
