I know I can get the cone-like air filter for my car, but I thought I read somewhere that they let more junk in, like water or something? This is a K&N air filter on the end of a stainless steel tube. |

The OE intake setup is good at getting the coolest air possible into the vehicle without the danger of water injestion. Some types of aftermarket intakes have some sort of heat shielding to prevent heat from getting to the filter, but in reality, a cone filter is pulling in underhood air, shield or not. The OE intake system pulls air from down below the left headlight area, behind the bumper fascia. Essentially, as far away from the engine as possible. |

If you want to get the best for least, search the "air filter" threads. THEN, look at some recent Seville/Deville and N* performance threads for ideas on how to open up the EXISTING air box and inlet system. Use a good name brand pleated filter, (if you have it, remove and "butt plug" the resonator on top of the MAF/intake hose), and devise a way to pull cool, dry air from inside the fender inner skirt or, from the lower air box pipe, run a 3" to 4" hose to a point just behind the lower driver's side grille opening. An afternoon's tuning for positive gain for darn little money. So-called CAI units for Cadillacs .........aren't. (Of course, the DIY idea doesn't cost a fortune and look trick, so it's no good.)(Yea, I am a cynic.) |

Honestly though, I did not notice much of a change on my SLS N*. The SRX N*, however, was noticable. I would not have believed it unless I did it myself. Either way, it can't hurt as long as you follow the oiling directions and will save you money on filters in the long run. DON'T OVER OIL!!!!!!!! |

Take a look at..........spectreperformance.com........ for all sorts of DIY air inlet/filter parts. Aluminum, chrome, silicone, all the toys. (You can buy an awful lot of $6.95 pleated filters for $150 or so.........) |

I think it'd be cool to have a custom CAI for my car. I am starting to like this custom accessories thing. Maybe sometime in the future I will add a division to my company... who knows. I hope the mesh grille deals kicks though nicely.
I am now part of their forum so I hope to learn more and design my own system.
Thanks, sub! | | Cadillac Discussion Tools | | |
