Get a car certified...

Remove this ad
I bought my 03 STS from a Nissan Dealer so they could not certify it they said.
Is there a way to get it Certified? Id rather buy the factory warranty than some aftermarket one...

Re: Get a car certified...

You cant get any GM warranty unless its purchased at the time of sale. So if the dealer you got it from doesnt have it then you cant get it. Sucks I know! So your stuck with aftermarket.

Re: Get a car certified...

I think this has been covered before, To get the Certified Cadillac extended warranty you have to by it from a recognized Cadillac dealership.

Dealerships will not "certify" the car if it was sold by someone else.

Of course the dealership will be very happy to sell you equivalent coverage under GMPP...
(since they get about 40% of the sale price of the policy as a commission)

Thats not exactly true either

here is the link to GMPP
http://www.gmprotectionplan.com/majorguard.html

To quote their website
Quote:
Major Guard can be purchased at any time during the new vehicle warranty period
Unless your 03 was first sold in 2002 or has huge miles it should still be under factory warranty (just barely)... Otherwise Mac is right your screwed. Further the cost of warranties shoots up like crazy as soon as the car is off of the factory warranty.

Re: Get a car certified...

Well thats where I got the 'cant purchase'. I bought my car with 45k on it with the cheap-o aftermarket warranty (non-cadi dealership).. Always took the car to the cadi dealership for work and talked to the service guy about GM certified. He told me only if it was sold by them.

Re: Get a car certified...

This is not true... you CAN get GMPP even IF the car is OUT of factory warranty (and youll definitely need it). The only caveat is you have to pay the full warranty right up front, you cant do an installment plan like you can with WarrantyDirect.

Check with these guys... www.gmfactorywarranty.com ... they offered me a VERY competitive quote with WarrantyDirect even though my 2003 truck ran out of warranty last November. Many members on this forum have used this dealer with success. Good luck.

I dont understand what you mean. The Nissan dealer is NOT gonna be able to sell you a GM Warranty. You have to go to a dealer that specializes in selling the GMPP warranty for AFTER-SALE customers.

Go to www.gmfactorywarranty.com That is *THE* GMPP warranty they sell... same as if you had the car certified. As I wrote above... I am *WELL OUT OF WARRANTY* and I was able to get GMPP to cover me. That website is simply a front for a Cadillac/GM dealer that sells the GMPP like any other GM Dealer, only at a volume discount. They will send you a quotation in 24 hours.

Even if you can not buy the GMPP warranty from YOUR local dealer, This dealership WILL STILL sell them to you. I was not able to buy a GMPP locally either because I got the same answer as you, in fact mine was worse due to being totally out of warranty. Don Sudbay Cadillac WAS able to get me a warranty. If THEY say (or said) no, then it has to do with the type of vehicle and the perceived "risk" of claims. I was given this information by someone in the CTS forum who ALSO was able to get a warranty even though he was out of Factory warranty.

Give Patrick a call, he can help you out... 877-733-7832

Re: Get a car certified...

"Certified" means that the selling (GM) dealer ran the car through a 120 point check and certified that everything was OK. Then the factory warranty is extended to 6 yrs/ 100K. Since you bought it from a Nissan dealer, it cannot be "certified", but I would think any GM dealer will be more than happy to sell you a GMPP extended warranty.

Yup thats right. And of course dont forget youre paying for this in the price of the car when you buy a Certified one anyway, so you may pay a LITTLE more by doing the GMPP, but the end result is the same. Its the same overall coverage.

Re: Get a car certified...

2 years 24000 miles 100.00 Deductible on the Escalade of the same year was 1480.00 I believe. 1720 with no deductible. Those numbers were entirely off the top of my head from the email which is not right in front of me at the moment.

I expect the Seville will be a tad more expensive, but it might be less who knows.
