Radiator Fan Motor - '92 Seville

Okay I attempted to do a search for a thread with fan in it but unfortunately word lengths of three letters or less get ignored by the search engine (correct me if I'm wrong).

It seems the other day my radiator fan motor went out. I heard this high pitched whining and smelled smoke when I pulled up to my house and turned off the car. It continued so I knew it was probably the fan motor. I pulled up the hood and sure enough the fan was idle while the motor was screaming and smoking.

My question is how difficult is this to fix on my own? Is it possible that the fan itself needs replacing and how can I tell?
