New Seville owner with questions

Remove this ad
Hey guys. Just picked up a 56K mile 87 Seville today for a grand and all i can say is what steal... Well aside from all the things wrong with it.

1. Mileage flashes "Error" Sometimes. What does that mean?
2. How do i clear items from the instrument center. Keeps telling me A/C is off and ac coolant is low.

Other then that i have a few small things. New tires, headliner and an inspection. Car has zero rust and looks like a grandpa car.

Question about suspension tho. Do they make any lowering springs or stiffer shocks for my seville? The ride is TOO soft.

Re: New Seville owner with questions

The AC Coolant is low and needs refilled. You just need to recharge it.

Re: New Seville owner with questions

Are you sure it is saying "ac coolant is low"? Coolant is in the radiator. Refrigerant is in the A/C system. Low refrigerant will disable the A/C compressor and set an A/C off message. Low coolant will usually set a low coolant or check coolant message.

Re: New Seville owner with questions

OK, being an '87 it is R12 unless it was converted. R12 is hard to come by so you will have to have it serviced. If it was converted, you can buy R134a and add a can yourself. That should solve the A/C problem. Not sure about the mileage error. Maybe someone else knows.

Re: New Seville owner with questions

By mileage do you mean the miles per hour display on a digital speedometer? or the mpg display in the info center, be more specific

Re: New Seville owner with questions

I figured out what the problem was with the mileage. It's cadillac's tampering system.

As for the DIC. It's just pretty much ****ed. No buttons work at all. It's going to need to be replaced

Re: New Seville owner with questions

There are firms that re-build them and guarantee there work. I had a one done on a 91 Olds Toronado... Getting parts for an 87 at the dealership is going to be a challenge.

Re: New Seville owner with questions

What do you mean "Cadillacs tampering" system? That year of Seville has a module called a constant power supply. That module supplied power to the D I C. Its located just to the right of the gas pedal under the dash. Its silver a little bigger that a pack of cigarrettes. loosen two 10 mm nuts to enable you to slide it off its bracket and pull it down still connected. Then slap it with the car running. If the D I C illuminates, get another from that era of Seville or Eldo. Also wiggle the wiring connector as well to see if that affects it. If memory serves, get one ending in the numbers 406. To verify the updated CPS numbers log onto www.allantesource.com and search his diagnostic threads. The 87, 88 Allantes used the same part and had similar issues with it.
