After driving it for over 40 minutes tha anitfreeze is forced out of my overwflow tube. I have taken it two 2 different shops and neither one can figure out what is going on. Other than the overflow thing the car rides perfect. Even when I drive it to work 30 miles away no problem. But as soon as I drive in stop and go trafffic, the temperature steadily rises from the halfway mark all the way to red, when I pull over sure enough the anitifreeze is pouring out of the overflow tube! Any suggestions would be greatly aprreciated. |

The spring can go bad over time and not hold the required pressure. Did they pressurize the coolant system to see if there's a blockage somewhere? Are you puffing white smoke out the tailpipe? I'm thinking blockage not a HG yet... |

I ended up replacing the cap on the reserve tank the spring quit working and the valve was stuck closed. The cap is only 13 bucks. Have a pressure test though just to be safe. |

How about a stuck thermostat? If your coolant flow is restricted, the airflow through the radiator and engine compartment at highway speeds could compensate. When you get into traffic there may be too much heat buildup before the fans kick on, so the system overflows. If you're going to change the coolant out anyway it shouldn't be much more of a job to do a t-stat. Just a guess, but a much cheaper guess than HGs. |

Well here's the latest, I changed the thermostat and put in the dexcool anitfreeze with the correct bars stop leak. The car drove perfect for one day then i noticed a small leak coming from the hose on the passenger side out of the radiator, the one with the metal bushing on it, someone told me that is my trans line and if it was leaking right at that metal bushing then that meant that my radiator was no good. They told me to drive the car and the bars stop leak might eventually seal it up. Now when i drive the car i don't notice any leaks until after the car has been sitting for more than 3 or 4 hours. If i check to see if any leaks an hour after driving there are none but later on i see what appears to be anti freeze on the ground. Mind you my original problem was the car overheating because of anti freeze pouring out of my overflow hose. The car has not overheated nor is anitreeeze coming out of my overflow hose ever since I changed that thermostat and added anti freeze, so maybe it is the radiator. Thanks for all of the help! | | Cadillac Discussion Tools | | |
