Brake Fluid resevoir float?

Remove this ad
I believe my car's brake fluid float has come disengaged. The Msg check brake fluid level comes on whenever I get the the RPMS up high or when i stop quickly. this problem started a couple days ago. I have been check the brake fluid level and it does not seem to be low.

I disconnected the sensor from the brake fluid resevoir, that did not fix the problem. I also tried fishing around in the resevoir for the float and I coud not find it. What does it look like and what object should I use to fish it out? and how do you replace it?

Re: Brake Fluid resevoir float?

i don't think there is a float. Its just the sensor that reads the fluid level I think.

Re: Brake Fluid resevoir float?

Both my '87, and '94 Sevilles use a fluid level switch-no float. If yours is the same, the wire you disconnected probably is on that switch.

Re: Brake Fluid resevoir float?

At your mileage, the sensor itself probably needs to be replaced. There isnt a "float" in there.

Re: Brake Fluid resevoir float?

If you jumper the two pins on the harness connector, the message will not appear. Temporary fix until you replace the master cylinder or the reservoir.

Re: Brake Fluid resevoir float?

Dude top off the fluid to the MAX line. You are low. And it wouldn't hurt to flush that old dirty nasty fluid. Your brake system will thank you for it.

Re: Brake Fluid resevoir float?

Suck all the dirty fluid out of the reservoir. Then refill it with fresh DOT 3 brake fluid. Then bleed the brakes at each caliper til clean fluid comes out of each one.
