Angry 94 Eldo Chugging Exhaust problem

Remove this ad
94 Eldo, 75K and she is giving me one problem after the next. First my Tach was jumping when stopped at a light reving the car forward. Changed plugs and wires (AC Delco direct from cadillac). This did not solve the problem, at the suggestion of some of you, I cleaned the EGR valve and TB. After I cleaned the EGR, which was not very dirty or did not seem to be sticking, I took her for a spin. She was giving off a very deep and much louder Exhaust sound, and when I stepped down the car would shake as it picked up speed. Then I cleaned the TB, took the EGR off again and made sure it was properly alligned and mounted it back. Still there is an almost chugging sound when I stand at the back of the car and listen to the exhast. And the car is sluggish and shakes when I take off from a dead stop. No Codes at all. Could my EGR have gone from cleaning it and not thrown off a code. I cleaned it properly, and don't want to spend the $ for a new EGR if it won't solve the problem. Any suggestion would help a ton.

A bad EGR will set a DTC and SES light. Sounds like you may be in need of plugs & wires. Stick with A/C Delco.

Re: 94 Eldo Chugging Exhaust problem

I had a problem similar to yours with my 92 eldo. ,lurching ahead when stopped, mine turned out to be a faulty torque converter solenoid,it was not disengaging transmission when idling in gear.

Re: 94 Eldo Chugging Exhaust problem

Jumping Tach: Clean battery cables and connections, particularly possitive side. Make sure battery is fully grounded. A jumpy tach could inidact a speed sensor problem, but that would set a code. Intermitent blinking and/or loss of PCM memory would also indicate the battery cables need to be cleaned; however, such a problem would/should set a code. I would clean the cables just to make sure.
