HELP! Beauty Cover Question 94 ETC

Remove this ad
94 ETC. Yesterday I was cleaning out my TB, when the plastic straw on the Carb Cleaner shot off the nozzle and into the Intake Manifold. So need less to say I removed the Beauty Cover to get to the intake and get that Damn straw out. In the process I stripped one of the ten bolts holding the beauty cover on. Now I have to go to the dealer and try to get another bolt. When I had the beauty cover off on the black thermoplastic intake was written IMPORTANT Torque 8-11 NM. I am assuming that it means when replacing the Beauty Cover since those bolt hold cover on and Theromplastic down. Now I don't have a torque wrench and every auto parts store I have been to only has wrenches that torque 14-200nm. So how important is it to torque exctly 8-11NM. Any help would be Great!
Thanks Guys!!

Re: HELP! Beauty Cover Question 94 ETC

First off, the '93/'94 is not a "beauty cover". It is a functional part of the intake manifold. As I recall, there are rubber grommets on those bolts, correct? The grommets give and allow the intake cover to lift and blow off pressure in the event of a backfire or "over pressurization". Tightening them down too much will prevent that from happening. I don't think it is all that critical. I would think you could tighten them down to 14nm, then back them off a 1/4 or 1/2 turn.

Angry Re: HELP! Beauty Cover Question 94 ETC

Thanks, Ranger I have just run into another problem. You are correct in that they are bolts with rubber grommets, I've just come from Cadillac and found that the bolt has been discontinued since it was only made for the 93-94 models. They checked all the dealer across the country and none have it listed in stock. Any suggestions on where I may be able to find this part?

Check Rockauto, that's where I got my set. If they dont have them anymore, I'll try to find a couple I have and mail one to you.

Re: HELP! Beauty Cover Question 94 ETC

Irrelavent now, but your dealer was looking at the wrong bolts. The revised bolt set - with the grommets - is still available. The original version - without the grommets - is discontinued.
