01 ETC vs Merc Marauder

Remove this ad
One of the guys at work has one of the new(er) Marauders, all decked out in black - my tradeshow coordinator was kidding around this afternoon and said we should put my ETC up against the Merc - it has the standard Ford 4.6 DOHC engine, not the superchargered one. He probably weighs a bit more than my Eldo, and his gearing is probably better suited for take-offs, but I'd be curious - do you think I could take him (and if so, how long distance-wise would it take?..lol)

Just curious. I kind of acted a bit nonchalant, saying we'd probably be pretty even - but what are the thoughts of the guys here. Anybody familiar with the 04 or 05 Marauders?

Re: 01 ETC vs Merc Marauder

2001 ETC:
Engine Size 4.6L
Number of Cylinders V8
Engine Type Gas
Camshaft Double overhead cam (DOHC)
Compression Ratio —
Horsepower 300 hp @ 6000 rpm
Torque 295 ft-lbs @ 4400 rpm

2004 Maurader:
Engine Category Details
4.6L V8 302 hp gas Standard
Number of cylinders: 8
Number of valves: 32
Camshaft: Double overhead cam (DOHC)
Horsepower: 302 hp @ 5750 rpm
Torque: 318 ft-lbs @ 4250 rpm

Kinda close to call but from what I have seen that Maurader is a beast.

Re: 01 ETC vs Merc Marauder

I think it would be a very close race, they are rated mid 6's 0-60 and mid 14's quartermile time. http://www.rushlincolnmercury.com/AdWizardAd/476383 The 3.55 gears they have would be an advantage and the motors they have put out more low end torque. Probabley the way the race would go through the quarter is the Marauder would be ahead until around half way down the track and then the caddy would very slowly go past them and beat them by a half car length or so assume both drivers were good.

Re: 01 ETC vs Merc Marauder

those things are nothing more than an Impala SS with a set of 3.73s which ive beat stock
youll take him in a 1/4 trust me, 1/8 itd be close

and i thought they always had 260 hp my bad about the 302

even so the thing weighs as much as a deville...

Re: 01 ETC vs Merc Marauder

Well, there may or may not be a showdown - I think we both know our cars are pretty evenly matched - I may have a couple hundred pounds of weight advantage but the engines seem pretty even - his gearing would help on the takeaway, but I think the farther we went, the more the ETC would gain.

Too close to call, probably. If he had the blower I wouldn't go near him, of course.. LOL

still laughing dude... i've owned both ... i can launch the SH1T out of my RWD"s and always bogged the FWD...

and well no ... i didnt know that... you straight up said that FWD has an advantage over FWD on launching...

while not completely untrue...its laughable to make that statement broadly...

Re: 01 ETC vs Merc Marauder

my mistake on not being clearer
off the line its all driver for a rwd car, fwd the driver needs to do very little more than drop the hammar
he has the advantage over that rwd merc
not saying i dont favor rwd mind you...
