I would like to clean my car out, mechanically, real good for this summer. Please post the best things to do for my 1996 Seville STS with 161,000 miles on it.
I was thinking of have the cooling system serviced... and maybe some of BG's services... fluids checked, but I haven't actually been able to decide exactly what I need to do.
Your posts are appreciated.
Thanks guys! |

Thanks guys! | Replace the serpintine belt ( check pully bearings, etc. when belt removed), have a trusted privatly owned tranny shop change the oil/filter, change the engine oil / filter ( I use syn/blend), fuel filter, coolant - additive pellets, lube job, sparkplugs & wires ( if original)& use elec. plug/boot grease, ....CHECK THE WEAR AREAS ON YOUR RADIATOR HOSES!! I used hose material & tie wraps to pad wear against sharp pionts ( I found the fan shroud 'arms' at the top rubbing against the hose). Check as many hose clamps as you can. ( get a nut driver- it's easier than a screw driver).....air filter - NOT an oiled type!! Refreshen brake fluid as you can, inspect water pump belt. Clean battery.
Check wiring harness for heat related evidence.
That's all I can think of at the moment. |

In addition to what has been mentioned, eyeball your brake system. Look for deteriorated rubber and metal lines, pad thickness, etc. Also have your brake fluid flushed. Over time it absorbs water and other contaminates which damage the system and lower the boiling point. |

Well....if we are including as many "check items" as possible, ,.......use soapy water & a clean razorblade to clean the windshield - then new wipers. |
