Don't trip, there maybe other things going on but it all leads to the same goal of what the forum wants. All I can say is send him the PCM and we can trouble shoot as we see fit. Remember this is still a process that we are all trying to solve. It will benefit all of us.

GM spent lots of time on these calibrations. It'll take a lot of trial and error (not on my vehicle!) before AJ comes up with something tenable.

Re: Northstar Tuning

I think it sucked oil into #7
Tha data looks ok other than it is eating a piston

Re: Northstar Tuning

What all did you change on that SLS? ONLY the speed limiter? Or other calibrations as well? I would think that if one piston sucked oil, the rest would have as well, unless you think a ring broke...but I think you'd see evidence of that.

In addition, I hope you're using tires appropriate for these speed runs...and/or keeping the car at 150 only very very briefly. I assume you're doing this on a lift, so the tires are just free-hanging? A tire that is only S-rated (which I assume anyone with an SLS will probably have), could easily fail when spun to well over its speed rating.

Re: Northstar Tuning

The engine that broke is in my FIERO. I am running a 99 SLS korean BASE program.
I will check and make sure.
I guess I won't. I left the key on when I pushed it into another stall this morning.
.
I have another engine I will build this week and install.

Re: Northstar Tuning

I have to be freindly. I found a washer in the intake manifold. I can see a wear mark in the intake port. This would mean that I had more than 1 in the intake. As I said the engine was taped up. The intake was not. I have had some major problems with other Tech in my shop and THIS CAR!

Re: Northstar Tuning

aj........something is very wrong here. What relationship does a Fiero mid-engine setup have to a late '90's-on 4,000 lb. FWD full sedan rig? Several posts here have compared apples and oranges.......and the apples blew up !!! -----------------P.S.-------------I just caught your post about a washer in the intake manifold. You can quote me: THE ONLY REASON FOR A WASHER OR NUT IN THE INTAKE MANIFOLD AFTER A REBUILD IS SLOPPY WORK. I have tried to maintain an open mind on this PCM program odyssey, but the longer it goes, the less I like the potential outcome. I, personally, would never trust a $10,000 - $25,000 vehicle to a "shadetree" tuner. If my car blew up, would you replace it? Diss me if you will, but it's an honest question.

Re: Northstar Tuning

submariner409
You do understand I have a Northstar powered FIERO. Also know as a P car.
The P stands for Piece of s***.
The washer I found is a special washer. It was attached to a nut or bolt. It is not flat and it is black. I will find what it came from. It is strange to find it in My engine. I have done so many customer cars with no problems.
I built this car to pay for a wedding.

As the saying goes, TANSTAAFL. That's karma for ya. I'd suggest buying a core from another dealership. Avoid the problem individuals altogether

Re: Northstar Tuning

Give the guy a break. I think he's for real, at least on what he's trying to accomplish. Me personally, now that I know what the result of this pcm tune he's doing, Im not to interested.......I dont think having the spark timing of a 50ft cady limo, will help me much. Nor will having the air/fuel ratio of a model with a tow package, give me any real performance. I will wait till someone can actually adjust our current set up. But good luck with this anyways....
