Re: What kind of Cadillacs do you like? The new sporty ones, or the older boaty ones?

I prefer the bigger boaty Caddys from the early 1950's through 1999,excluding the really shortened models made in the mid to late 1980's.
There is nothing like the feeling of taking a long road trip in a behemoth luxury Cadillac barely feeling the road beneath you.

That being said,i recently drove my aunts 2003 DHS and it does handle better than bigger Caddys from the past.It has more creature comforts, but the interior room is smaller than my 1995 Sedan Deville. My '95 seats six and is a true Sedan. The 2000 and up Devilles can just seat 4 maybe 5 if the occupants are petite.

Cadillac has had to ADAPT to SURVIVE in the auto industry.Any Cadillac television commercial you see today is specifically designed for the younger buyer. As another member here stated "it`s better to have smaller sportier Cadillacs than no Cadillacs at all".

It would be great if Cadillac would create at least 1 big luxury ride comparable to the size of the 1994-1996 Fleetwoods/1994-1999 Devilles----with todays modern styling. They would sell bigtime.

Re: What kind of Cadillacs do you like? The new sporty ones, or the older boaty ones?

I like them both equally, but my favorite Cadillac has to be the '98-'04 Seville. Just great looking cars, and equally great to drive. I dream about them every night... and soon my dreams will be reality.

I think the classic Cadillac's are awesome too. Namely the '67 Eldorado and the late 50's/early 60's models. All have have a classic look that only a Cadillac has.

Re: What kind of Cadillacs do you like? The new sporty ones, or the older boaty ones?

I like the boaty Cadillacs of the 70's and 80's. It's unfortunate that GM thinks that every car in every line has to "handle." I don't want to feel the road whatsoever. The Cadillac is supposed to sail over potholes. I also want all the effort and "feel" to be taken out of the steering, which should have a very thin, smooth steering wheel, of course. The harsh unpleasant outside world should be totally sealed off, with the driver put completely at ease in a plush living room with pillowed leather couches and thick carpeting. When the Cadillac driver gets there, he should feel totally rested, as if he was never even in a car. American luxury cars are supposed to be about making long distances shorter and getting a big car for the money.

Just drive a 76 full-sized Cadillac and tell me that it doesn't represent the pinnacle of American luxury

The new Cadillacs are nice to look at, particularly the STS and DTS. I love the styling of that CTS coupe, with it's neo-bustleback. Unfortunately, they are far too Eurpoean in interior appointments and ride for my taste. The new Caddys are nice cars, but lacking as Cadillacs.

I blame it on the baby boomers and their fascination with being young and sporty.

Re: What kind of Cadillacs do you like? The new sporty ones, or the older boaty ones?

I definitely am for the big cruisers. I've owned countless boats, including a '58 Sixty Special and perhaps my all time favorite,s the '78 Eldorado Biarritz. They stood for pure luxury, which is what Cadillac was all about back then.

That being said, I do own an Allante for sunny days when it's just my wife and I. And I love the ETC, just not the Northstar. They are very different kinds of cars though, and fun for a change. But as for the brand new Euro Cadillacs?... I wouldn't buy one, even if I won the lottery. I'm happy as a clam floating along in my '91 Brougham D'Elegance.

Re: What kind of Cadillacs do you like? The new sporty ones, or the older boaty ones?

I love the new stylish aerodynamic caddy's. The older boat ones were real nice like a 66 or 67 deville. I am all about new age and technology though.

To me, nothing says 'elegant American motoring' like the '93-'96 Fleetwood Brougham.....long live the Land Yachts!

Thumbs up Re: What kind of Cadillacs do you like? The new sporty ones, or the older boaty ones?

My vote goes for the land yachts; nothing says luxurious driving like a tastefully appointed barge bearing the Cadillac badge
