What a disappointment with Cadillac!

I've been driving an '05 EXT from new. Whenever it needed servicing, I'd just walk home since it is 3 blocks and I work at home. My wife ordered a CTS last fall and when we made an appointment for servicing, said that she'd need a car to get to work.

What an unpleasant surprise! You have to rent a car from Enterprise; showing driver's license, doing a walk-around, signing papers, and in this case, paying an extra $7 up-charge for a CTS because they were out of Pontiacs. And you have to fill it up with gas upon return.

When her (former) Jag went in for service, they handed her a key (or had a shagger drive it into the service bay) to a Jag and she walked away, returning it the same way that evening or the next day or whenever her car was finished. No papers, no walk-arounds, no gas, just great personal service.

Our Lexus friend says it's the same high quality service on loaners for him as do two BMW driving friends. My wife got a $1000 discount when she bought it for what Cadillac called a "Victory" rebate getting out of a Jag, amongst other marques.

So why do they chintz out on something as important as this; the chance to show an ongoing commitment of service to the customer?

We love this dealership (service guy has been a friend for 28 years) but my wife already knows she'll look beyond Cadillac for her next car, and I can't blame her.

Re: What a disappointment with Cadillac!

that is a dealer-specific rental policy, not Cadillac. My dealer gives out 08 CTS loaners, I also had a new DTS once. Another I know gives rentals. Search the board, you'll find as many dealer loaner/rental variations are there are Cadillacs. Take it up with the GM of the shop or find another.

Re: What a disappointment with Cadillac!

I'm sorry to hear about your troubles. The dealer I work for gives out loaners if you car is in service for more than 2 hours. If you absolutely need a car, we can always work that out as well. We have a fleet of Cadillac's, ranging from DTS to CTS. Hopefully you can find a dealer that better suits you next time.

Re: What a disappointment with Cadillac!

Same as above. In all the years I have had service done, I have gotten new Caddy as loaners except once I got a Buick Lucerne (and the dealer (Enterprise) offered to come out to my office to exchange it for a Caddy later in the morning if I desired). Returning the car with the same gas it left with is pretty standard now. When I had Lexus, many years ago, my dealer's service was not as good as the Cadillac dealer. I don't remember if I had to get gas before returning, but I would guess that with today's prices, they do moniter that now. The real BS part of your experience IMO was the upcharge for the CTS . As stated, there are better dealers. Good luck!

Re: What a disappointment with Cadillac!

Well I can understand a charge for gas; ideally they would give it to you with a full tank and you'd just return it and let them refill it at a more-or-less going rate instead of the usual huge upcharge. It's the rental policy that I dislike, not the type of car they give you. A smaller, less expensive car is fine to drive for a day or two- makes you appreciate the Cadillac even more. But all the rigmarole with the renting vs. being handed a set of keys is such a big difference.

But we're pretty well stuck at this dealership. First, they really are a great bunch of people. Second, they're 3 blocks away, so any convenience picked up at a more distant dealership would be negated by the commute. (They also refunded the $7)

But they led me to believe that their policy is identical with all Cadillac dealerships, and it sounds like some of you have something better.

Re: What a disappointment with Cadillac!

My local dealership absolutely provides free loaners. When my CTS was in for the recall they were out of loaners, but there is an Enterprise car rental agent located INSIDE the dealership. Enterprise provided an '08 CTS to me at no charge, though it was handled like any other rental...driver's license, proof of insurance, filled w/fuel upon return. After all, I was driving an Enterprise rental...not a dealership loaner.

Re: What a disappointment with Cadillac!

My experiences with Fitzgerald Cadillac in Annapolis are about the same as RT........busy, out of Cadillacs, Enterprise something free, return full of gas.

Re: What a disappointment with Cadillac!

In all my years as a Cadillac owner I have never gotten a loaner. I got one rental car one time and I had to pay $15 out of pocket for one day. Most of the time I had to provide my own transportation. A couple of times I got to ride in a shuttle driven by a senile old man who kept getting lost.
