The same V6 engines offered in the CTS will power the coupe, but a V-Series coupe with a 400-hp-plus Northstar V8 under the hood is likely as well. Cadillac also is mulling over a convertible version. “It would add cost, but convertibles are where the volume is generated in this segment,” says a source.
While the CTS-based coupe could be developed quickly, there is speculation of a larger coupe with a V12 engine that carries design cues of the Cadillac Sixteen concept car and could be sold in the $75,000 range.
I have been visiting another forum, and checked out Buick's website. What GM is advertising gives me great hope that the Cadillac Brand may now get something really special. Have you see pictures of the new Buick LaCrosse? It's Awesome! I have made it my screensaver, I will get a copy and post it if someone wants one.
About the new CTS, it should be designed as a hardtop convertible from the beginning, so that the added weight and the complexity of the hardtop mechanism can be dealt with in one swipe. Designing the hardtop convertible right now will the least amount of cost, will increase the price-point and the profit margin, and give the brand the best bang for the buck. A convertible is where the main market is. The CTC will sell without big advertising, or discounts.
The future ULC Coupe is a much bigger gamble, at $75, it's not going to sell fast. Cadillac needs to launch several high quality vehicles like the CTS, and SRX (w/new interior) and redo the STS, all to rave reviews! Then and only then should the "Standard of the World" Luxury Coupe and the Flagship Sedan be released.
Mercedes Benz just released the S550 with all the luxury features imaginable but the price fully loaded is $105,000. When the Lexus LS 600 L is released at $10K to 15K less, also with more features, and Lexus reknowned Quality and Reputation, with the dynamite new interior-- Mercedes may have to offer "rebates" to sell the S550, to all but the "status" customers. The current S Class cars are known to have JD Power ratings just below Hyundai Models.
I believe within a short time the Luxury car market will become "bloodbath," for the manufacturers that shortcut their customers. On Sunday a program on satellite TV showed the interior of the new Chrysler Imperial. I bet Bentley would be jealous, the piping on the seats are right out of Coventry or is that Crewe?
Guys and Gals get ready to cash in some of those "Parked Assets" and get ready for the "Ride of your Life."
