On page 53 of the current (Oct. 14) Consumers Report (my favorite toilet paper) the CTS-V is listed as a discontinued model.
Anyone else have confirmation or rebuttal?
I am so glad I still have mine. and I didn't like the 2nd gen anyway. Our V-1's are a classic.
If history repeats itself, there will be a break in production.
The base CTS design on the Sigma platform came out in 2003 and the V1 ran from 04-07. The second gen base CTS (also based on Sigma but dubbed Sigma II) came out in 2008 with a break in V series production until the V2 came out in MY09.
The 3rd gen CTS based on a stretched version of the Alpha platform begins as a 2014 model which would suggest a MY15 or MY16 for V3.
In the meantime...
The ATS which is based on the Alpha platform came out as a 2013 with a minor refresh for MY2015. There are current talks of an ATS-V due soon.
The ATS-V.R GT3 which is in development/testing now will more than likely replace the CTS-V.R in racing for the next few years.
IMO or just wishful thinking would be for BOTH an ATS-V and CTS-V to compete head to head with BMW's M division allowing GM to target both the M3/4 and M5
It's not the end. A new one is coming. CR is far from the Bible when it comes to product planning decisions.
But you won't see any more coupes or wagons - it's the end of the line for them.
Hoping for an ATS-V and a CTS-V at the same time isn't wishful thinking - it's what's going to happen.
Due to costs with cars these days I have highly considered doing the ATS as my next car. Which wont be anytime soon but for the money I can get one of those and do a few mods it would be a fun little car to have. Plus I think it looks like a V1 with similar lines.
End of the line ? They were already working on the third generation CTS-V even before the third generation CTS had been revealed . They have been working on the third generation CTS-V for at least 3 years now .
